I applied through one of the tax rebate companies to see if I was due anything back. I applied for the missus too. I got an email right away saying it would be 2/3 weeks before I would hear anything.

The missus got a txt today with a link on it to what looks like a legit revenue.ie website looking for details to process payment.

    the link is - https://lihi3.cc/1lYae

    Scam or not???

If it is a scam thats some coincidence......

Definite scam. It's very easy to do your own tax return on revenue.ie. Takes only a few minutes and refunds are processed in a couple of days.

If you have to ask if something is a scam 99.99% of the time it is absolutely a scam.

Those tax rebate sites themselves are a scam! Sign up to Revenue online and you can apply for a tax review. It takes about 1 minute to do and you don't have to give the tax rebate company a cut of your money. Just apply for a P21 balancing statement.

I get them. They never ever text such things.
Best rule of thumb is log into the site yourself, (not using any link) and see what messages there are.

Just to be clear you were incompetent of either going online and pressing a button on your revenue account or filling in a form printable from the revenue website.

You relied on a "website" or legit company(they exist) to do that for you, because you were incapable of doing it yourself.

    Yes, 99.9% scammy.
Can I ask why you, or anybody, would contact an unknown "third party" (other than your own accountant) about your tax affairs, giving them all your personal information, instead of dealing with revenue directly?
Revenue are so much easier to deal directly with nowadays compared to years ago.

This OP. Why pay someone commission to process something for you that is simple to do?! People seem to have a mental blank when it comes to taxes. It's very straight forward. Check out the taxation forum here on boards and you DIY it and save yourself the commission.

Got a wierd text the other day from a google-foto link, accidentally hit it though it looks like it was just a phising attempt and I closed it quick enough without giving any details. These scams are getting more complex these days. Never hurts to have an antivirus on your phone either!
