Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

looking out the back window here and I find it strangely beautiful. Ominous heavy sky in the fading eerie midsummer twilight. This is what we are and this is what has shaped us and made us what we are.

I’d regard it as very breezy here in N Mayo now. Nothing too bad yet. Lights have flickered though.

think itl peak here in Sligo at 1 to 2am with gusts of 60knots at least in NW

Trees in full leaf hitting off power lines is going to be a big problem in this event. A gust of even 100 km/hr will snap branches off. All very interesting and rare replying to a storm thread on June 13th....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,666 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

Yes, 2018 has been such a vintage year for weather enthusiasts all around so far and on par with 1947 I'd say though we still have some way to go.

I do agree that this has a chance to beat the 24 June 1962 gust but even if it doesn't, this goes in the record books if you ask me, just look at Hector below! That's a sting jet if I ever saw one.

    Met Eireann 2319 update 13/6/18

Becoming stormy overnight in coastal counties of Connacht and Ulster and very windy elsewhere, especially over the northern half of the country. Severe and potentially damaging gusts in northwestern areas as southerly winds veer westerly in direction. Clear spells and showers, heaviest in the north. Lowest temperatures 10 to 13 degrees.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,021 ✭✭✭Artane2002

To be honest, I actually missed the windy weather. I like it when it is windy but sunny.

10 min avg 29km/h SW here near Tralee, gust 60km/h. Sounds loud with all the trees in leaf.

Weather today = weather in 3/4days?

Getting a bit wild now in Castlebar, a nice deviation from the last few weeks weather, pressure down to 993.8 and the humidity has dropped nearly 15% in the last hour.

Looking at the midnight reports theres a 15 mb pressure difference from Belmullet to Johnstown castle. Not often you see that in June!

I feel like cork should have been in the yellow alert at least, but then again it may just be the leafs that are making it sound worse? Lashing rain and strong winds making my letter box jump and bins banging outside. Seems to be getting worse.

Very interesting seeing the trees blowing like that in full leaf in summer I must say!

And that's the biggest danger tonight. Deciduous trees that might have been weakened in earlier storms may not be able to withstand the sail effect tonight! I just looked out about 30 minutes ago and some trees here in the Midlands were really moving about!! I can't imagine what they'll be like further North and West...

Very windy in east county limerick now

I'd say go back to bed and tie yer quilt down. The models I'm looking at have ye being hammered 2-3 hours from now....

Just been awoken by the sound of the wind in Galway City. Big trees here are dancing around like crazy. Feels like this will be enough to knock quite a few.

Lots of banging, rattling and knocking in West Clare. No real worsening or improvement in the last 2-3 hours, it's amazingly consistent.
