"Kids in the game these days have no fear of anyone" should be one of the many, many clichés we'll be hearing about 500 times.

I'll reserve judgement on Taylor as a commentator/analyst until I hear him.

    Reckon he'll be insufferable though

They practice together as well.. So no reason for Lennon to fear him

    TbL

Top 16 PDC Order of Merit are seeded, top 16 ProTour Order of Merit (who haven't qualified as seeds) are unseeded.

Cadby was nowhere close to qualifying, Richard North (ranked 31) being last man in.

Some amazing value in the betting for this, each way at least. Lewis back in some bit of form an loves the matchplay, same with Wade. Smith coming off a win last week.

Lewis has a tough side of the draw, I think Wade is a good each way bet and will on him myself.

Didn't even see the draw yet bring honest. I've only backed Smith each way so far. Wade is definitely one to watch he played deadly hammering mvg last week

Assuming the usual structure of 1v16, 1v8, 1v4 etc it'll be

    Top Half.
    Q1
Michael van Gerwen (1) v Jeffrey de Zwaan
Adrian Lewis (16) v James Wilson
Dave Chisnall (8) v Keegan Brown
Michael Smith (9) v Jonny Clayton
    Q2
Gary Anderson (4) v Stephen Bunting
Raymond van Barneveld (13) v Kyle Anderson
Daryl Gurney (5) v Steve West
Gerwyn Price (12) v Joe Cullen

    Bottom Half.
    Q3
Peter Wright (2) v Jelle Klaasen
Kim Huybrechts (15) v John Henderson
Simon Whitlock (7) v Richard North
James Wade (10) v Jermaine Wattimena
    Q4
Rob Cross (3) v Mervyn King
Darren Webster (14) v Steve Lennon
Mensur Suljovic (6) v Steve Beaton
Ian White (11) v Max Hopp

Hmmm, I just logged in to post the opposite - think he's fine so far and a nice change from the Mardle/Rod shoutiness & hyperbole.

I agree. He's been fine so far. He was such a strong player mentally and it's interesting (so far) to hear his thoughts on Lewis' headspace throughout this match.

Well hopefully van Gerwin/DeZwaan will give us some better entertainment than Chisnell/Brown, that was painful to watch. Strange to see a player give up so completely in what is supposedly one of the biggest tournament of the year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

van Gerwin buckling a bit here. definitely feeling some pressure @ 6-6

    Wow mvg 10-6 loss

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭kentoccfc

Amazing performance by De Zwaan - twice he's beaten him on TV this year. Could be a future rivalry, JDZ's scoring power is immnse

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

pretty straightforward win for DeZwaan in the end. Fair play to him, he never waivered with the finish line in sight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,508 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

JdZ looks the real deal - cool, composed, solid scoring, decent doubling.

MVG has lost a noticeable amount of weight, wonder is that an issue with his mixed recent form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,147 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Las Vegas and Shanghai tournaments in the last fortnight. Looked like travel caught up with a MVG. He should of been focusing on the Matchplay seems like he needs to win everything. Only winner is Barry Hearns bank account

Not sure about the solid scoring AJ, how many 180's did he have? Low enough average too, fair play to him but MVG had a serious off day

Lennon currently 8-6 down against Webster, would love to see him beat Webster but not looking likely.

Don't like Gurney but that was a lovely bull finish, who'll blink first!!

Gurney getting a wile beating, 10-3 down, first to 11

This game is a beauty , de zwaan is playing great , Lewis playing his part too

I'm not familiar with De Zwaan lads, would he have been considered a top prospect or is his performance here out of the blue? He looks excellent!

He was always a heavy scorer but not great on doubles , this looks like his breakout tournament, double 18 double top finish was class

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,823 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Thought I'd jinxed him for a second there, great D18 D20 finish on 94

Serious bottle by De Zwaan there to hit the double double to win as Lewis was on fire and the crowd were on his back. Great game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭kentoccfc

Heavy scorer but seems to have finally fixed the doubling, a la Whitlock in 2009/10.

Him against Chisnall and then potentially Cullen/Anderson will be magnificent

I haven't enjoyed a game of darts like this in a good while.

Great stuff from both Ando and Barney.

ando in full flow is a joy to watch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,280 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

2 great games to finish the night. Badly needed after a poor start to the tournament.

Lewis started off slow and it cost him. If he wants to get back up the rankings he needs to take advantage of chances like this.

Ando was fantastic. Love to see him add this to his CV. For the talent he has he really has not won enough tournaments.

Surprised to see Wright quoted as saying MVG was a good player and not a great player and going on to say Taylor was a great player.

Think by any objective measurement MVG would be classed as a great player.

    TbL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,028 ✭✭✭boomdocker

Thought de Zwaan was very good. Lewis threw everything at him, including a fair amount (too much?) of gamesmanship and apart from a wobble near the end took it in his stride, that finish was something else

Agree with the above about Ando, plays some darts when he's on form, looks unbeatable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,147 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Wright also giving Huybrechts no chance of beating him. Trying too hard to sound confident now that he be expected to win it out that MVG is gone altough I believe Anderson is the favourite

Wright has been in 7 major finals and lost 5 of them to MVG and has been beaten by MVG in their 3 meetings in the World Championship - in comparison MVG has 28 major titles.

So if we use Wright's rational that MVG is only a 'good player' then Snakebite is worse than ordinary, a journeyman.

In short darts players talk a lot of rubbish!

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭kentoccfc

Whitlock through - comfortable enough against Wade.

Still think it’s Cross’s to lose - although it’d be nice to see Ando complete the ‘Triple Crown’ of Worlds, PL, & Matchplay

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭kentoccfc

Usually a fan of Mardle, but when he’s paired with Studd the pair of them are insufferable

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

Fair play to Webster, he took his chances well and punished an off form Cross. Tournament is wide open now but I think it's Anderson's to lose.
