Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wonder who the hanging woman is? No tattoo and unless Ellie has been hitting the weights, it isn't her.

It wasn't even the most controversial thing in a trailer during the press conference

There must be a serious market in being perpetually offended at stuff.

    What was more controversial?

(Not that I think the TLOU2 trailer was controversial)

Well I was more surprised at the tone of the Detroit Become Human trailer than the LOU2 trailer. With the whole abusive parent tone that I got from the trailer.
Imo neither overstepped the mark though.

Best to starve that nonsense of oxygen really. It's a game marketed at adults, and while yes, the trailer was intense, uncomfortable, and shocking, it was also gripping, exciting, and incredibly effective at promoting interest in the game. Was it all of these things because the violence was aimed towards the girls in the trailer? Absolutely not. It would have had the EXACT same effect had it have been two boys about to be killed, but ultimately saved by a girl. That's what I'd consider a grown up, mature response to the trailer though.

  • What a great way to introduce new characters. Excite much

What I got from the trailer was how f*cking badass the women in it were. Awesome trailer and a genius move to not have Joel or Ellie in it. Excited to learn about new characters and retain suspense for Joel & Ellie's story for a while longer. And the graphics in the trailer were insane. Naughty Dog just keep getting better and better.

  • Great video here and some well thought out theories, but be aware this could be considered spoiler

I spent the whole game worrying that Joel and / or Ellie weren't going to make it. Not looking forward to that again. Trailer was awesome, I kind of skipped through it not to spoil it but also wanting to see how it ended.

Holy shíte that trailer looks amazing!

I've read that it'll be late 2018 or early 2019 before the game will be released... seems so far away from now!

It's hard to know how far in they are but given that all we've seen is cut scenes so far you would think 2018 is a touch optimistic. I'll take a guess that they might aim for 2019 but could see it pushed back to Xmas 19 or into Spring 2020.

    PS3 in 2013 was 7 years old

PS4 in 2020 will be 7 years old

Push it out another year so I might actually have enough saved to be able to afford the set-up required to play this properly.

Have to agree 100%. I loved the balls it took to release such a blatantly uncomfortable trailer. It sold the idea of a very dangerous world. I don't want to bring out the old ' mankind is our worst enemy' cliché but it sold that idea very, very well. There's a gaming podcast that I've loved listening to for a long time ( 2 of the lads from the old GRUK team) but I lost a lot of respect for the hosts when they gave the trailer an absolute kicking, stating that the violence was disgusting and that it did absolutely nothing to promote the game out of context. They were very close to jumping on the populist bandwagon with the whole 'promotion of domestic violence against women' nonsense too.

It's hackneyed and utterly boring to use violence against women to sell computer games and I expected more from them.

This is the double edged sword of we need more women as characters in games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

It would have been pretty gruesome violence irrespective of which gender was involved. Please don't turn it into one of those arguments.

I respectfully disagree, I think it's lazy and unimaginative writing.

Ah, c'mon, this wasn't some damsel in distress style trope where the female characters wait passively to be rescued. To try and mark it down as some sort of cliched, misogynistic fantasy is ridiculous.

It's a game made for adults, to be played by adults, what if it was a woman mincing a mans arm???? Would you be so vocal, not likely.

Easiest thing to is not play the game when it's released. Millions will disagree with you.

    It baffles me too.

Back on topic, that is one of the best trailers for a game I've ever seen, the game play or story line won't disappoint, hopefully, Naughty Dog don't do sh!te.

It isn't. But people love to make an argument out of nothing, especially on the internet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,280 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

What violence against women? I saw characters from a game world in a situation they might find themselves in that game world... like, seriously, how anyone can get any offense from that is beyond me!

World is well beyond gone mad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,603 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

You can bet your life savings that had all the character in that scene been men, the same people/blogs/news articles/podcasts would be complaining about the lack of female characters in a game that set out such strong ones in the first.

Some people just like to complain.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,116 ✭✭✭✭RasTa

Only violence towards men should be shown in games. It's as stupid as saying no violence in games. GTA should be banned etc

Yeah, let it sink into the ether and be forgotten about. Even if it was all women beating up women, someone would complain. On that note, it's two women instigating violence against others - there just happens to be blokes there going through with orders. Let's magically forget that TLOU also had very strong female characters just as knee-deep in crud as the blokes were. Screw the equality, there's violence to complain about!
The theories thus far based on both trailers have been interesting. That Joel is dead / figment of her imagination, and that the pregnant lady is her mother - that's just scraping the surface. The fact the trailers are being so finely cut with knives looking for info shows how much people want it.
. Still annoyed at not getting to play them on PC.

    I wish I hadn't read that spoiler

Ah yeah I had heard it. I'm progressing on the basis none of it will happen. I'm kind of conflicted as TLOU was one of my favourite games and I was perfectly happy how it ended but at the same time want to play the next one.

The combat looks really engaging (assuming that's accurate representation). As much as I loved the first game, the combat was nothing special.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

There did seem to be a few scripted bits, but it looks absolutely amazing.

the combat in TLOU actually worked better in the PvP than it did in the story but it was very hit and miss in the game, literally. I started a new play through just this week, it's so relaxing on the normal modes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,752 ✭✭✭johnpatrick81

Simply stunning. Really does make me wanna pick up TLOU again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,213 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Ellie looking more and more like Ashley Johnson. The cinematic bookends were fantastic. Really makes me excited for the game and story, as well as the incredible gameplay in between.

I've been playing on Grounded the last couple of weeks, not fun at all. I loved my survivor playthrough but grounded is basically me speed running through levels as it's so hard to actually try and take anyone on.

I like the little reference you Joel "you're old man giving us orders", unless Joel is actually dead and they're referring to someone else who took care of Ellie.

Combat looks so tense and deadly. Game is looking incredible. Wish we got a whiff of a release date though.
