    Hi all

Second thread of mine today, but I am looking for a nice enough laptop backpack.

I'm always carrying around my laptop and usually a whole pile of other stuff, so a backpack works best. Backpacks tend not to look particularly professional though..!

Been looking around, and I like this:

    http://www.ebags.com/product/ogio/soho-pack/230769?productid=10348268

But, I'd prefer it in black, and their black looks fairly navy on that site.

I want to get away from the schoolbag, brand-stamped kind of thing. Just some bag that is muted (black, plain enough, but something like the buttons on the link at least make it look like it's trying).

Does anybody have any recommendations, or what do you guys use?

    Thanks!

I got a very nice plain backpack with padded slot for laptop in Ikea last week.

Edit: Unfortunately I cant see it on their website.

It's black. The reason it reads as navy is because it is woven to look like denim. I wouldn't use it as a work backpack myself; I'm with you, it looks too casual and I prefer a nice deep solid black. Most of the people in my last job as an IT professional in an international corporation defaulted to Swiss Gear, incidentally, as did I (they make a very nice rolling bag that held my laptop securely as well as all my training handouts and other paraphernalia). I work from home now and I can use any hippie-chic backpack I like :)

    Thanks both!

I looked at the Swissgear site there, and they look good, but they are still a bit "I'm a backpack"-ey - if you get me. :p

That's certainly the type I've been using, but I'd just love something that looked a bit better. I've been going to meetings with my current backpack for ages, so I have form, but, if possible, I really want something that looks more understated (and expensive). I'm not a brand bunny at all, but I definitely want to project a more professional look (even while carrying all of my stuff).

Not sure if I'm asking the impossible here!! :P I suppose budget is up to about €400 give or take, as I'd use it every day, but, then, it would have to be durable.

With that budget, consider something like this (the team got together and bought our "Fearless Leader" a backpack from this company after a successful implementation of a particularly tough international software upgrade). Very high-class and fashionable: http://ie.tumi.com/p/lyons-backpack-079810GRY

If you're a woman, here's one styled like a sharp handbag (also available in black) http://ie.tumi.com/p/laurel-backpack-073670GSP

Check for specials/promo codes and other deals online; I managed to save the team a hundred dollars on the boss's bag.

Thanks Speedwell - very much! That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for! (And, yep - I'm a woman.)

That's brilliant - I really appreciate your help - you know your bags!!

So, I was looking at those links, and I really, really loved the second one. However, my laptop is an inch oversized to fit! I emailed the store to see if they had larger sizes (/could I cram my laptop in anyway), and they just now sent a very nice email back, saying that no, not really. So, I'm looking at two others from the same site:
    1. http://at.tumi.com/p/calais-rucksack-0484707D
    2. http://at.tumi.com/p/portola-rucksack---wandelbar-073680D

I'll be honest, I think I like the first one better - but that's probably just appealing to my how-much-stuff-can-I-fit-in-my-bag mentality. And I did want to move away from the rugsack look.

I think the second one is definitely a different look. I'm not mad on the tote handles though, as I'm never going to use them, and they're a bit sticky-outy.

I'll probably go for No. 2, but would welcome your thoughts!

I love the No 2 - much more hand-bag-like and distinctive, feminine and classy, and not student-y.
