Well done RTE, you really bought competence with your 400K, didn't you.
Jack got better value when he bought the magic beans.

Today FM are still pinching themselves.

He was ****ti5g on about how good the Gillette promo rubbish was and insisted that he wasn't emaciated. The fu5king tool meant emasculated. What a douche bag.

He was 1/2 a point shy of doing medicine or so he told Pixie McKenna one day years back, likes to let people know they are dealing with someone almost as “intelligent” as them

Don’t tell me he has given up the drink? No more 1 bottle of beer and small bag of crisps in a Friday, as if the drinks industry wasn’t in enough trouble or so they would have us believe

I don’t believe that for one second. I’m younger than D’Arcy but I don’t recall the points system having half points.....and being the nerd I was back then I’d have been looking at these things years before they would have affected me.

I’d like to see proof of this claim.

He's lucky he was that 1/2 pt short, he might be stuck in a demanding, underpaid medical job now instead of creaming €500k a year for sitting on his a$$ and spouting nonsense.

Just going to say the same Joe, I've noticed that a lot. The media has a definite agenda. And with regard to the term "fake balance" that Philip Boucher Hayes used earlier, I think "fake balance" is an appropriate term to use for most RTE presenters who pretend to be objective but are clearly batting for the liberal side of every argument.
You're 100% right there id say, but you gotta love how the Healy Rae stuck it to PBH. Brilliant stuff, never lost the head, just talked commonsense. PBH, like most of the rest of the media, just accepted this Lancet piece as gospel. There were a few heads discussing it on Yates, who seemed to think that in recent years the Lancet has given up objectivity, and completely embraced the vegan, anti meat outlook.
Typical RTE/modern media approach, never letthe facts get in the way of your preconceived notions

Ah yeah, I love when they put it up to them as well. Particularly when Duffy starts picking on somebody who he thinks is an easy target, only to have them hit the nuclear button and start asking some pointed questions of himself and RTE.

That priest from the Alive magazine was brilliant. f**k it, I'm going to listen back to that now. :pac:

Haven't read the article but he'll be paid regardless.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭jeremyj1968

I said this to somebody earlier and the question was asked "why is he getting an extra 50k then". But I think that must be because the figures released were from a few years back.

You really have to wonder about the decision to bring him in and give him a light entertainment show though. Doesn't drink, doesn't drink tea or coffee, doesn't eat sugar, constantly lectures people about their own habits..... The Ray D'Arcy of 2018 doesn't exactly shout "light entertainment" at you now does he.

dont watch Farcys tv show normally but wanted to see how Noel Edmonds was on it ( remember he took the piss out of Ray on the Ray ?)
He did it again on tv ! Ray said something about talking to two of his friends - Edmonds said something like ' you have x2 friends ? classic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,593 ✭✭✭djemba djemba

Only caught the show coming out of the 4 o'clock news. Seemed like ray could barely talk. Like he was distracted or something.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭jelutong

    How are YOU today Ray?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,543 ✭✭✭goochy

Ray only came back to RTE due to the tv gig , its now been proven hes only fit for kids tv - he cant get paid 400k just for radio - so will they have to make up some other tv show to justify his salary ? this will be interesting !

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,663 ✭✭✭thecretinhop

he will probably get a pay rise and still just do the radio de rte do not care

used to like him years ago, till he got all preachy, but actually as they have him under contract, they may as well use him at something. That could be something that would suit him at least

I'd love if RTE got him to do a TV show about the best takeaways and best pubs in Ireland. And maybe another show about fun.

I'm surprised Edmunds was so upfront about his dislike.
He's usually a Grandmaster of passive aggression.

he didnt show dislike as such - just sense he was dealing with a gob****e and was probably surprised someone with Rays dull personality would have any friends.

Absolutely dreadful interview with Cindy Joyce who became the first Traveller to get a Phd. It was about racism against Travellers in Galway...apparently some of them have to break up into smaller groups when trying to get into pubs in the city!

It's the Judge's fault that more Travellers are in jail as they don't give them the leeway they give settled people when they're up in court!
Toxic masculinity in Travellers is no worse than in general Irish society.
Travellers don't really get married young, that's on the way out.
Travellers value education and it's just a myth that they don't.
'Grabbing' as seen on the Traveller TV shows is not true. She reckons the idea of that came from the TV producers.

Not challenged on 1 single point she made by D'arcy.
    Only positive texts read out.

Text into the show: "Some of the Cant language is older than the Irish language itself"

Looks like anything goes on today's show. Free for all but of course that only applies if it's on the side that Ray agrees with

You haven’t been listening to much radio recently so.

I have lost count of the number of presenters admitting to “getting emotional” about mundane stuff that ,while it is laudable, getting fohherking ‘emotional’ about it is stupid and false.

    When did this bolloxology start.

I said this before but my blood was boiling when he was on the Late Late one night and specifically blamed the state for the fire in Carrick Mines. That being the same state that pays for everything for them, dole, medical needs, site to stay etc etc He, of course, was not challenged by Ryan Tubridy (in the same cowardly way that he didn't challenge him when he said the guards were "scum") when he said this.

And as it turns out it was not the State's fault, it was one of his own community who left a chip pan on. Where is the apology?

Nah, that's way off the mark.
MHealyRae very tetchy. Didn't actually have much to say of any relevance. Mostly it involved:
    - complaining two or three time he was insulted by PBH when PBH simply contradicted his assertion with some climate change facts.
    - saying "if you're the presenter of a show you'd need to calm down a small bit"
    - you're the presenter , you can do what you want and cut me off.

That's losing the cool - and so losing his grip on the argument. I thought PBH was unfazed by it all and didn't back-pedal.

As for MHR's commonsense - maybe that was the little homily at the end about "everything in moderation" according to his 100yo friend. It wasn't any more meaningful on a second hearing.

Unfortunately J, that kind of mindset is becoming more and more prevalent.

Am I right in also understanding that the inquest found that there was ‘drinking involved ‘.

It’s an attitude that needs to be called out, and Tubridy didn’t challenge it as you said.

Yeah I'd pretty sure that that was the issue. Sounds like it, but I'm not sure if drink was actually mentioned during the hearing? I still remember the ads on TV that used to warn against coming back from the pub and leaving the chip pan on. I heard Yates yesterday asking Frank Greaney did the verdict "assign blame" in this case. Greaney of course says "Oh that would be a very harsh reading of it".

The truth is that if the chip pan was not left on, there would not have been a fire and all those people would still be alive. But the truth is not allowed anymore.
