I know it’s probably explained by some nonsense later on, but I’m still laughing at how
Ethan has his hand chopped right off, pours some healing juice on it, and then just reattaches it and carries on
. You’ve got to admire Capcom for putting something that absurd in there (even by the absurd standards of this very silly series) and barely referencing or dwelling on the fact at all!

Just played that bit yesterday... Yeah, actually laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of that, even more so than the similar thing in 7...

What do Capcom have against Ethans hands though? They go through some serious torture in these games!!! Three separate times so far in this game alone...

I had to ask a friend about that. Apparently it's a plot point from resident evil 7. Going in blind though I was like what the actual ****?

I mean the last time I saw **** like that was in the anime 3x3 eyes.

Finished the game early on really enjoyed it throughout!

Gonna start a new game + try to unlock some more items.

Actually can't wait for the DLC now as im dying to see if any of the big details near the end and at the end get addressed or will we have to wait till 9.

Enjoyed the second part of the game. Was a total homage to clock tower and even though it was no where near as good as clock tower it was great seeing them call back to that horror classic and change the gameplay up a lot.

You get used to them eventually and when you do you appreciate why they are the way they are.

Yes, it all falls into place later.
And there's no surprise if you played 7 indeed.

Excellent game imho, I enjoyed both halves equally for all they were.
Although the castle was the most spectacular one.

That magic liquid would be super handy for covid and cancer, it can work wonders. Jack cut my leg off in 7 and I just put it back on with the first aid bottle and now the hand... jumping the shark lads.

When you clear the game, you unlock a bunch of bonuses including the 'making of' videos which are really cool. From the main menu, go to Bonuses and they are in there. Also uploaded to Youtube.

    As for Ethan...end game spoilers
Reddit picking up on a few things that foreshadowed the ending. Lady D drinking Ethan's blood said it tasted stale and one of the daughters said it tasted great. Seeing as the daughters are made of flies, it's only fitting that they would like dirty shyte blood. It's great how everyone was liking Ethan for being a regular Joe and he turns out to be the weirdest playable character yet.

Also the baby symbol depicted around the village was actually in the Resi 7 posters.

On PS5, XSX and XSS, the performance mode is when you turn raytracing off. The ray tracing mode is close enough to 60 FPS most of the time that you don’t need to bother turning it off, but it is essential on Series S.

You will get a smoother 60FPS if you turn Ray-tracing off. There’s definitely stuttering down to the 50s in a fair few areas if you have it on. Nothing major or game breaking, but enough to notice for sure.

Aw goddamn it, i was noticing stuttering but never copped to turn off ray tracing.

The only place where I felt the performance dipped badly enough was the flooded town area and the subsequent boss. I think next time I play I am just gonna turn it off in that area.

Thanks for clearing that up for me . I'm not going turn it off , it looks amazing on ps5 I think .

Turn it off in the lake area, it causes huge dips, then turn it back on when you kill the boss.

DF complaining it's a bad port. It's running great for me on AMD hardware though. I had one strange stutter but it's been 60 FPS+ at 3440x1440p. Well I had the weird shadow issue which I managed to fix. Also annoying that AA just isn't working at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,147 ✭✭✭Cordell

They said it's a mixed bag, not completely bad.
There are a few things that are not properly ported on PC: the RT resolution cannot go any higher on PC, AA not working properly, VRS not working properly.
And of course any PC port that doesn't implement DLSS is not a good PC port :)

  • Moderators Posts: 5,561 ✭✭✭Azza

Yeah I have the stutter when attacking enemies but I didn't actually notice it too much until digital foundry pointed out. I also had the issue with tanking frame rates when the the vampire daughters get too close but that was pretty rare and for the most part performance was fine. I didn't notice the other issues like with AA and I didn't have VRS on.

But it is somewhat crashey. Not bad enough to ruin the game but it seems more prone to crashing when in mercenaries mode to the point its putting me off playing it. Seems to crashes on the GPU side, so I think the game does need a few patches to be in a good state on PC.

That only works because Ethan's a bloody walking piece of fungus that needs to be watered!

Played that bit last night and it only dipped twice and only to the low 50's. PS5 version really held up.

I really enjoyed that bit. As I said before it's a straight up homage to Clock Tower which I really appreciate. However I didn't think the scares worked as well as Clock Tower, it was a bit rote. Still I really liked how
it changed into a point and Click/horror hybrid for a section
. Seems to be nice variety in each of the 4 sections.

Just coming up to the stronghold, will finish this over the weekend, maybe even tonight.

Those people posting YouTube videos with spoilers in the thumbnails are the f**king worst.

Not referring to the poster here, I mean in general when browsing YouTube, very easy to come across spoiler thumbnails.

Well I finished it. Only took 7 and a half hour and I got lost a lot and took my time. That sucks. As for the game I liked the castle and doll house but then it got all Rambo at the end. Very few scary parts and the story was pure gibberish haha but it's Resi so. But yeah good decent game. Solid 6 or 7/10. It's fun but not wow. Regret paying full price but glad I played it. 7 was much better but still get this if you like that.

I'm actually really glad of the brisk game time. No action game needs to be more than 8 hours long.

Every section in this felt nice and brisk, whisking from one location to another. I read one review said it had pacing issues but i found it just right. Saying that, i wish the castle and Beneviento House was longer.

Edit: actually that's a lie, i wanted out of Beneviento's gaf ASAP.

Picked this up on Stadia, I'm falling in love with Stadia. Helped with the PRemier Edition offer they have which means the game was pretty much free.

Started playing it on my chrome browser at lunch, jumped to the TV after work and then went to bed and kept playing on my phone. Runs perfectly on all.

Got through about two hours of it. Just got into the castle, when you first meet the 4 ladies. Enjoying it, and thankfully it's not scary. I couldn't finish RE7 :o but i was playing that in VR

When you mean the Clock Tower, is it when you were hiding from Mr. X? I do remember his loud footsteps and the sound of opening doors looking for me.

As for House Beneviento, that place creeped me out. Removing the limbs from the wooden doll and the mutated baby completely freaked me out. Playing in a darkened room using earphones ramped up the tension too.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,849 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

No, clock tower is an old snes horror game. Its a point and click game but at certain points you have an enemy called scissorman come after you and you've to hide or find environmental puzzles to slow him down. It's an incredible game and despite the limitations of the snes hardware it manages to be scary and tense. That resi 8 chapter felt very like it with very similar story beats as well. Capcom has ties with the series as it published clock tower 3 and made its own homage with haunting ground on the ps2.

Maybe someone can help me but Im in the village in a house that's red and I cant find what Im obviously missing? it's the house with garlic hanging from the ceilings and there are candles in the there too with a painted circle on the floor...it's just really frustrating me at this stage Ive cleared every other house in the village area.

Money under the bed apparently. Was the only house left in red for me until i read about it after i cleared it.

Finished it there. Enjoyed it up to the last third or so.
The Factory wasn't terribly enjoyable for me. Pottering around grey industrial surroundings (it's a factory, I know) is just nowhere near as fun and interesting as Castle Dimitrescu imo. I appreciate how they switched up the enemy type here though.

Like others, I just wish the Castle Dimitrescu was longer / the bulk of the game. Dollhouse was cool but as someone said, I'm not sure how well that will play on repeat playthroughs.
Wasn't terribly shocked by the whole Ethan being mold revelation. I'm pretty sure it was revealed in 7 in one of the files in a lab at the end game. It explains the limb reattachment madness anyway.

The story is the usual silly madness and not worth dissecting seriously for me. For Resi games (for me) it's really more about the atmosphere and I posted earlier that I didn't love the direction that they took this one in, in fairness you can't keep making the same game so they had to try something different.

I just loved Resi 7's fusion of Texas Chainsaw Massacre / Evil Dead / Resi 1. There's not as much for me to love in this one. That being said it's still a solid 6.5/10 for me.

Just finished it...I really enjoyed it.

Nice setting, mad storyline, nice mix of different enemies and the boss battles were fun.

Its heavy on the action, I never really found myself in any trouble ammo wise, always felt comfortable and strong throughout, this isn't a criticism and I don't mind it going in this direction, I actually enjoy the action/horror element and they've done well with moving the series forward.

I thought it looked beautiful on the Xbox Series X, although I had one or two issues with crashing, I also lost some saves at one point and it got a bit glitchy but nothing that really mattered in the end.
