I was getting on the Luas a few days ago at the Balally stop when a Luas appoarched which I had waited 10 mins for an inspector got off asked me my ticket I showed my tagged on leap card which he checked in extremely slow manner so I ended missing the tram and having another 10 mins for the next one as I was going to Carrickmines and not Sandyford.

This annoyed me I also believe I was singled as I was a young lad wearing casual clothing (not a skangkery tracksuit). If it was a buisness man in a suit I doubt he'd be delayed in this manner. I don't use the luas that regularly I'm usually on the bus and have DB inspector despite rarer to be more polite and courteous.

Inspector has no legal power to check you if you have not boarded the tram, only on the tram or if they have witnessed you leaving a tram and are still within the station area.

Surely they can check before you board as long as you are luas property ie tram and stops

Nope, The ticket only is valid for specific journeys as in zones. There is no valid ticket for simply being at the stop. I'd have told the inspector he is only welcome to inspect my ticket once I'm either on a tram or getting off.

    Did you report this incident?

Even if you had not tagged on they could not fine you as you had not yet commmenced the journey, so it would appear they just set out to disrupt a customer. With excellent CCTV at stops this incident can easily be tracked and viewed.

Report to Luas/Transdev and also to the National Transport Authority who are responsible for Leap Card and regulate Luas.

As a regular Luas user I find the majority of ticket checkers to be friendly and helpful, but there are some who lack in the most basic of customer service skills.
