First bits of the DK cab arrived today!
Only small but Its a start,
I'm pretty much going to be getting a cab in the post :D

If any body spots any DK cab related stuff for sale let me know.
I have most stuff sorted but you never know.
I'm getting a few original bits that are a bit rough with a view to getting better condition or repo parts in future.

Im not going to pretend its an original cab so using repo stuff isnt an issue.
I just want it to be 100% cosmetically!

    More to follow!

    The loot so far
    Repo side art :D

    IMAG0657.jpg

Stick (short zippy) and Jamma harness
    IMAG0658.jpg

And I got this few random bits of coin mechs, original 25c mechs!
missing a return button and the coin return thing.
Have a coin return thing coming from mikes arcade.might have to make a button out of aluminium.unless I get lucky.new complete mechs are available but pricey so I'll just go with the plates for the moment.

    2014-01-10+07.53.48-2.jpg

Got a bit of work done on the plates. Not sure what finish to leave on them.
left one is sanded and sandblasted.
    Middle is sanded and polished.
The originals are a brushed look.Brighter than the sandblasted finish and duller than the polished!

    IMAG0651.jpg

I might leave a polished one out in the rain and see what happens.

Cant wait to see how this turns out, My no1 cab too. the artwork on them is just amazing. ill never get my hands on an original so settled for a DK "themed" one instead, but i cant wait to see the finished product here.

    So work continues.
I drew out the sides of the cab in cad (in metric) based on the jackobud plans.rumor has it his plans are too wide so will wait til I have the bezel and marquee before I even consider buying wood.
Anyway decided to laser cut out the sides (from cardboard)to make a stencil and get an idea of the size and........
    2014-01-14+17.08.38.jpg
I have half a carboard DK cab!
    With side art
    2014-01-14+17.11.08.jpg

    Its quite tidy actually.
On to the monitor.I was looking for something in the garage and found some transistors/diodes.I had ordered them ages ago and they were for a polo.
So in a moment of madness I pulled out that polo chassis I had.The one that was blowing fuses like a mad yoke.
4 new diodes in the rectifier and changed out the HOT transistor and another transistor (no idea what it does) and It sprung into life!
    Well just about:mad:

There was blue fire coming from the Lopt.
with the screen flashing white the odd time so a new lopt is needed.
I bit the bullet and ordered one.40e via PM
Better be 100% perfect after that.

checked the monitor for fitment in the cab, looks good.should have plenty of space. Not sure of the correct angle yet.

    2014-01-14+21.31.40.jpg
(note my bitching cow skin rug ;))

    more to come!
(and yes,I am considering a full size carboard mock up :D)

I feel obliged to warn you that cardboard will not support a monitor. Just in case you get any crazy ideas :D

Looks good, great news on the polo, they are a nice monitor.
Cardboard mockups are great, had one of my kitchen before I decided to extend it, was there for about 2 weeks lol

Yeah the polo should be the muts nuts in it!
I brought the tube into work today.
Have it stripped downed and cleaned.Getting one of the lads in work to paint the frame.
    Its looking fresh.
I pulled my garage apart looking for the remote board last night.Ended up being in the first place I looked
At least the garage is cleaned up a bit!

    Here it is before cleaning/painting

And with a bit of elbow grease and some primer and paint!

    D61XYEkaj3grWynA9JGJu9IB535rDkfhYl7PVRV5_5M=w557-h985-no

Almost minty! There is a metal band around the tube itself that I didnt get painted.Too dodgy paining it while the frame was off the tube.
I might do it.I might not.
Also mocked up a bezel.not a bad fit,but not perfect.
Fairly hard to draw the shape of the tube in cad.
    2014-01-16+16.02.29.jpg

I hope I get the flyback later or tomorrow so I can keep the ball rolling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,920 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

Whay did you use to clean the dyst and grime off the tube? Looks immaculate now.

It was mostly loose dirt tbh.
I used compressed air and then wiped it with a chemical we have in work called heptane (nasty stuff!).Then wipe again with kitchen roll and there ya go!
Gave the frame parts a quick blast of the orbital sander to get the rust/flakes off and again degreased with the heptane primed and painted.

Well I spent 4 hours yesterday digging up a water pipe, and bringing cattle about 40 buckets of water, to fix a leak when i was told that someone had turned off the valve and never turned it back on

And Thursdays are my day off

So where will I send my c.v :P

Thread related, the monitor looks absolutely mint now! Well done!

    Would I do that?:D
But I have been thinking. Its going to be tatable.
Sure might as well do it now than regret it down the road.
    You never know.
I think The flyback is in parcel motel waiting for me.Should have the monitor up and running later.Fingers crossed I dont run into the wobble problem I had with the last polo.
All tho I have since heard a resister of some sort between sync and ground can cure this on the polos.

    A wise man once said,
"If you book them they will come"
    and here it is,A miracle!
after a few hours of pain and a bit of rage.
    20140123_200641.jpg
    20140123_200628.jpg

    Picture is nearly perfect.
    I made a bit of a **** up.
I pulled out the focus cable going into the neck board socket.
I've always done it this way.turns out this one was different and I damaged the connection between the socket and the neck so the focus isnt working like it should. Will have to think about "bodging it" or getting another socket.
Going to ask on J+ for advice on it,might blag a free socket either :D
also the pots on the remote board seem a bit flaky so need to bang new ones on.

    Cheers Jack!
Did a bit more work on it earlier.Shame about the focus.
Whens its working the picture is excellent but it keeps jumping in and out of focus.
Ordered a neck socket from Hong kong via ebay.

heres a pic from earlier in focus!some bending up the sides but thats standard issue with this model

    Got the paint!
1L of DK blue, half of black and the hardner.
This is PU paint.Has to be applied with a spraygun. Its really solid suff.
30e but should be worth it.
    20140125_124707.jpg

Have run into a problem with parcel motel
Box of stuff sent to me from the UK.
Has a DK bezel, coin door and CPO in it.
Marked as delivered and signed for by S hawthorn (seems to be the parcel motel sig)
Yet nothing from them.Emailed them and they say they have nothing for me:eek:

They better find it or there be murder to pay

    edit.
Looks like the PM id was missing from the package

Probably up in the Finglas depot then waiting to be 'found'. Missing the PM Id really screws them up.

Yeah I had sent they guy my full address via PM on UkVac
then when I payed him he used the address that came from PP.
My fault as I have several address in my PP.
I just hope the bezel hasn't been damaged :(

So if it was sent to one of your paypal addresses, do you know who this S hawthorn is who signed for it?

Or do you happen to have a paypal address that is Parcel Motel just without your PMID added?

Annoying situation anyway, fingers crossed about the bezel alright. :(

This is what puts me off using PM, what happens in the event it can't be found?

Urbanledge has learned a valuable lesson to never forget the PM ID. :(

Seriously though, you still haven't used PM yet? Order something cheap and use them, it will arrive safe and sound and fast.

    Two main things can go wrong I think;

There's no PMID - your name is on the package so they can identify you that way, so you should be okay.

Your package is put in the wrong 'motel' and someone else gets it - I did hear of this happening to someone, the package they collected was not theirs and worth a lot more. They were decent and contacted parcel motel to give it back. This is the main one I'm concerned about. I guess if they mix up two packages they'd known who it went to so it may be recoverable?

Nope still havn't used it. Being honest, I haven't been ordering much, if anything, from the UK lately. Anything I do order comes from Amazon & with free super saver shipping, PM gets sidelined for me. Maybe now that I've to order some arcadey bits I'll use it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,725 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

You can hardly blame PM for not having easy access to it without the PM Id attached.
Your address has absolutely no relation to your chosen PM location.
I went to collect an oversize parcel from their depot recently and forgot my PM Id, yer man managed to get my ID based my registered phone number but other then that he said there is no way of finding it without a manual search.

Yes exactly this.No idea why but its deleted now.
A quick google of S hawthorn shows up a thread on boads about PM deliveries signed by him so they have it .
This was my fault. Its an over sized box too so should be easy to find(70cm x 70cm)
The sender says its packed extremely well so should be ok.

I had them call me before where it was a different name (my girlfriends name) on the package, with my PMID. They wanted to verify if it was supposed to be for me.

If it doesn't match both the name and PMID, I think it goes into a list of ones to be checked. If they can get some of your details from it, they'll probably contact you to check it before doing anything with it.

Got my 60-1 today. Great board for the money.
Stuck it in the blast and had a few games.
Still no sign of the other box :'(
Rang them today and the lad said they definitely have it in finglas somewhere. Said they look for lost parcels during the night and to sit tight for a few days. I'm afraid.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

I had an oversized box before that wouldnt fit in PM

So they rang me and offered to courier it down to me, for more money of course. The guy on the phone was really nice though and it got night lined down to me the next day.

I'd say it might have gotten put into the oversized pile and forgotten about maybe. Hopefully she arrives safe and sound

That sounds very promising! I wouldn't be too freaked out yet, not if they said they definitely have it somewhere.

I'll try it out when I go home for lunch. games are on an SD card it seems so I assume you can add more yourself.

There is a a horizontal jamma board on there too

Not that easy, those boards have plenty of protection on them to prevent you adding/removing stuff. The 138 & 176 boards have been hacked a bit to allow mods I think.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Bubble Bobble is on the horizontal one alright, im guessing that board is pricey enough? Would probably be a waste of money buying it and disabling all games except bubble bobble, even if you can do that!

Bubble bobble itself is crazy expensive, about 320£ i think usually. Looking for a cheap solution but without using a pcb i have to wait to boot up!

For the 500 in1 horizontal? Thats a great price for that, sure the 60in1 is nearly that.
