Bookmakers’ Afternoon Greyhound Services (BAGS) has today announced a schedule for next year’s Sky Sports greyhound fixtures for the first half of 2014.

BAGS, as programme commissioners, have worked closely with SIS, Sky schedulers, sponsors and the GBGB in recent months to formulate coverage from January to June, comprising 15 fixtures.

The BAGS fixture list itself is scheduled to be released next week, subject to confirmation.

The first of the Sky fixtures will take place at Romford on Tuesday, January 14th for the Coral Coronation Cup, and the cameras will be in Birmingham on Wednesday 29th when the Local Parking Security Prestige returns to our screens at Hall Green.

There are two fixtures in February, the first at Sheffield (feature event to be confirmed) on Tuesday 4th, followed by a new showcase of action for the north east, the Pinpoint Festival of Racing at Newcastle on Tuesday 11th.

The Racing Post Juvenile/Springbok double header will get March off to a flying start at Wimbledon on Tuesday 4th, followed by the Trainers’ Championship on Tuesday 25th at a venue to be confirmed.

There are also two live-on-Sky fixtures in April, the Pinpoint Arc at Swindon on Wednesday 16th, followed by the Coral Regency at Hove on Thursday 24th.

Much to the delight of greyhound fans, full coverage of the William Hill Greyhound Derby from the 3rd round onwards will be shown live on Sky. The Derby 3rd round takes place on Saturday May 17th on the red button, the Quarter Finals on Tuesday 20th, Semi-Finals on Saturday 24th, with the Derby Final screened live in a special two-and-a-half hour show on Saturday, May 31st .

There is also plenty on offer in June with three fixtures, the first on Wednesday 4th at a venue to be confirmed, followed by the Betfred Gymcrack at Kinsley on Tuesday 10th, and the Three Steps at Sheffield on Tuesday, June 24th.

Commenting on the new schedule, BAGS chairman Tom Kelly said: “We have had a positive response from the industry following the coverage this year and are pleased to be in a position to continue this into 2014. Everyone has pulled together again to make this happen and help provide an exciting mix of competitions in the first six months.”
