Does anybody know is Bus eireann still losing money ? Over 18 months age they said they were going to axe many routes in rural areas with low passenger numbers because they lost 30 million euro in 2008. I dont think many of these routes were ever axed.

they have been cutting back on some routes but not completly axing them merely removing one or two of the services at lasser used times and have cut a few services which were covering areas served already by other routes.it seems to be more like a general shake-up of rural routes removing some journeys which had less than 5 passengers than a massive cull.

Jeepers Foggy_Lad What do you want..?

The (VERY Expensive) Deloitte Report, commissioned by the MINISTER for Transport Mr Dempsey, rather pointedly concluded that Bus Eireann is being operated at or near the peak efficiency standards for the Industry.

The company`s current restructuring programme is intended more of a response to the collapse of the Countrys economy (Also,by association,a Noel Dempsey & Pals production) and as such is more about rationalization than a massive cull policy.

However,I`m sure if Foggy_Lad and others seek it,then a massive cull can be arranged....

How about a "massive cull" of the warm bodies at No. 59...

Actually to be fair Bus Eireann have been plugging away at redesigning their services all year. They have cut back or cancelled quite a few services, and in fact introduced improved services in several areas.

It has not been as obvious as they have (since May) been doing single routes at a time, but a glance through the the following pages will give an idea of the level of changes that have taken place.

1st phase of major changes: http://www.buseireann.ie/news.php?id=831&month=Jan
2nd phase of major changes: http://www.buseireann.ie/news.php?id=846&month=Mar
    Changes in January:http://www.buseireann.ie/news.php?id=824&month=Jan
    Further Changes: http://www.buseireann.ie/news.php?id=848&month=Mar
    Changes since May: http://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=145

Most of the changes have made common sense - cancelling buses that carried less than 5 passengers (or indeed no one as in the Saturday route 102) and revamping services in other areas.

Many of the posts here stating that BE are useless etc. really do not take into account all of the ongoing changes that are taking place within the company.

As Alek states, the company got a virtually clear bill of health from Deloitte, something I fear that DB would still fall very short of.

Sorry Alex you have taken me up all wrong as I am in favours of most of the changes being made by bus eireann for a change:) I was just trying to clarify what and why they were doing it for the op.

And that KC61 is a somewhat worrying aspect of all the recent Network Directing.....the thrust of Deloitte`s recommendations appears to have been diffused leaving us with a rather confused situation.

The essential ingredient of information management is still far short of any acceptable level ?
