2 stroke vs 4 stroke engine pollution

    Just exactly how much worse is a modern 2 stroke engine versus a similar power 4 stroke engine these days?

    I'd be reading stuff about some older 2 stroke engines being as bad as 50 cars but I don't know what to believe. No tests and figures to come by either

    Older 2 strokes used to be terrible but AFAIK modern bikes are OK.

    It was California which killed off the 2 stroke bike when they banned them. But some EU manufactures, who don't have many US sales, have started making them again and they are compliant with current and future EU emissions laws.

    Not too sure about lawn mowers, chainsaws etc.

    Some of the most efficient engines are the huge 2 stroke diesels used in ships. They run slowly so don't need a gearbox which helps efficiency too.
    The slow means compustion is burning at constant pressure, as the piston moves and there is more space in the cylinder rather than a constant volume detonation like in petrol engine
