Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Absolutely outrageous idea...

Inspired to a trip down memory lane kicked in by a recent Alfa-related post, and depressed by the absolute lack of choice of the irish used car market (my insignificant Megane Coupe' 1.4 is turning out to be almost a "left of field" choice as time goes by), an outrageously mad, insanely attractive idea has started to form at the back of my mind...what if somebody wants to source a "legendary" car from the '70s or '80s, like a PROPER Giulietta or an Alfa 75, and bring it over here? Would it be possible to register directly as an historical car? Would insurance companies bellyache about the car being LHD even on a vintage?

Most importantly, are there any competent garages that could do the major jobs, without going "WTF?" as soon as they remove a back wheel and realize the structure is...slightly different from what they expect?

But... people import (and tax and insure) classics all the time, its not a taboo.

Moving to Classics where they'll know for sure.

it's not a problem importing any car....finding a good specialist garage might be harder, most people are DIY mechanics in the Classic field i would say (they are usually quite simple to look after)

A 'proper' Giulietta, you mean one from the 50's ?? or 60's ?? I'm sure there are 80's Giuliettas and 75's in RHD form for sale in the UK. LHD is not an issue for insurance companies that deal in classics, AXA for example. An 80's Alfa is not that old to make it difficult to find specialists to provide service. TI Autos for example celebrated 30 years in business recently.
