Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Your best bet for something as specific and localised like this is to contact local historical societies. I did a search for some around Kilkenny and came up with the Kilkenny Archeological Society which seems to cover a lot more than archeology - as it so states on its main page. If you contact them they may be able to give you more help for your particular interest.
    Good luck.

there's an entry for Gowran in Samuel Lewis's Topographical directory of Ireland for 1837 that might be of interest ... see : http://www.libraryireland.com/topog/g.php

If you try particular items or individuals such as Gowran Church from the 1300s then you will start to build a picture and the local houses/landlords etc

How about this? Go through each one, insert the keyword 'Gowran' (and its various spellings) each time.

Gowran is a Klingon commander in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Yes, I am a nerd.

I think of it every time i pass through :) On topic, you should also check out William Tighe's Statistical Survey of Kilkenny, c1820 (reprinted in 90's, your local library should have a copy). It should have some brief comments on agriculture, economy, antiquities etc.

My 10 cents is to start with something you are interested in

For example, the barony of Gowran shows up this

    http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlkik/history/gowran.htm

You also get a feel for the area thru the churchs especially the catholic ruined churches with the disolution of the monasteries

what aspects of Gowran history actually interest you OP -ownership or what?
