    With this in mind, I want to reiterate the following:

    I would actively encourage people to post in Irish on the Gaeilge board as much as possible. However, I want this forum to be as accessible as possible and so, for the benefit of those who do not speak Irish or who do not speak it as well as you may, I want people to provide English translations with each Irish posting.

    If you don't provide such a translation, I reserve the right to delete your post or topic.

    You've been forewarned!!! smile.gif I'll post this as an announcement later.

    oh good god, it's bad enough trying to type a post in irish , but then having to read through it and translate it into english?
    I rarely know what I mean when I type in english, trying to translate irish should be fun smile.gif

    well just don't give them any slack so...
    if they are asked to translate, and refuse to do so, just delete the post
    *shrug*
    no point in making everyone translate their posts...

    btw, what about the word "sliamadóir" (not sure of the spelling).. its a word for a sneaky/dishonest person... not neccesarily a vulgar or rude word.. but, just to be safe? smile.gif
    irish is like that with some words, they are used as "curse" words in a certain context but they are not neccessarily "bad" words at all.

    If you don't provide an English translation for your Irish when asked to do so, I will most likely delete your post or topic. There may be exceptions, naturally.

    I suppose its logical to post in irish on a geailge board but c'mon thats alot of effort!! Watch me try and translate this!

    heh, irish doesn't have just one word for many things, like english does, 'tis a very descriptive language

    that measn literally... something close to "doing a change"

    Aistrím leabhair Gaeilge go Béarla - I translate Irish books to English.

    5 words in Irish, but 6 in English and apparently Irish is a "very descriptive language"...

    Saying more with less words?... I'd certainly call that a 'descriptive language'. Anyway... this thread (with regard to the topic) has run its course.
