Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 for €24.98 at Argos

Hi,

As I'm buying a netbook, I just spotted this at Argos. http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/9296499.htm

I've paid nearly €45 in the past and even on Kaspersky.com, its 39 sterling. It says netbook edition but if you look at the cover, it says it works perfectly on netbooks. I might be wrong but, having looked at the Kaspersky site, there is no KIS for netbooks, only one version. So, bargain?

I haven't paid for Anti-virus in about 4 years. And I wont be doing so again. I use this one on my laptop and desktop and seems to get good reviews for use on Netbooks too in terms of resource usage.

I'm not saying that your bargain alert is not a bargain. But you should know that there are antivirus progams out there for free that often perform better than the paid ones. like MSE

Hmm, I'll reserve judgement on that. I've used free ones for years too and had virus attacks despite being uber-diligent with AVG (it had many update problems). I often use Trend's free online version too, as a double check.

But KIS is a lot more than an antivirus. And you can't run a machine in Windows with just an antivirus?

Features like virtual keyboard and many others have made it worth my while. Defo at this price.

Meh, I use ms security essentials which is grand and gets the job done.

Also, I know a lot of people that run windows without an antivirus or any sort of protection and have never got a virus. A basic free antivirus is more than enough imo. Once you start adding in extras like firewalls and such, it'll start slowing down your machine because of all the extra processes and such. security essentials comes with a constant monitor anyway which basically acts as a firewall.
imho I don't think anyone should pay for an antivirus. just my 2 cents

I have been using Kaspersky a few years now. At first I downloaded it (illegaly) as I'd herd it was good. I went onto the Macafee site, who offered me a free security test. I expected them to tell me how much I needed thier product. Instead after doing it's thing, it told me that my computer was completely secure, it could find no way of getting into it and was virtually invisible. I decided if their competition was telling me that Kaspersky was excellent then I'd stick with it. A few weeks later I got a message saying my activation code wasn't valid so I went and bought it. I have never looked back and have got many other people onto it.

Saying that, if I didn't want to pay for it I'd definitely be using MSE. I just don't get why people use Norton.

I've been using KIS for years and have found it provides good protection. However, KIS 2011 has been a total nightmare. Constantly causing freezes on Vista. I've downgraded to KIS 2010 and the problems appear to be gone. I will not be renewing when it runs out in the next few months.

i find superanti spyware and avg sufice with most attacks

and both free.

Just back from argos. Bought an MSI U135 for 229. Lovely little thing. Sweet as.

Also bought KIS 2011 on cd and now I'm having buyer's remorse

Think I will research the KIS 2011 issues and return it unopened if I decide to. KIS 2010 ran on my Inspiron 1300 (before the HDD died 2 weeks ago) and yes, I found it resource-heavy to be honest.

If i thought MSE and malwarebytes and spybot and such like would keep me safe, I'd be happy out.

And this bit in particular. It just does it's own thing, it's not resource intensive. It doesn't bother me, it just hangs out in the background without annoying me with pop ups and the likes.

I use it on my desktop and laptop, and i haven't had any issues.
