Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

According to Linley Mackenzie in Irish Times this morning, hoping for Marmion & TOH to be back for interpros, McKeon resumed training this week and will be available for selection from next week on.

I know these guys would like to be back for the interpros, and if they are fit and ready then that's great. I do wonder if Connacht are just too dependent on a player's word that they are ok. SOB is a prime example of rushing players back. At the end of the day it is only a game of rugby and the alternatives are not shabby players

That is absolutely not how it works and funnily enough the example you provided is the perfect example of why it doesn't work the way you suggested.

Sean O'Brien was part of the Off the Ball Connacht rugby special a few weeks ago and on it he talked about how he felt he was ready to get back to playing for a few weeks and the S&C and coaching team told him he'd have to wait a bit longer until he was fully fit

And yet both were proven wrong b.gud. He took a pretty innocuous hit which has him back at square one. So it would seem both player and S&C were at fault. And simply that was the only point I was trying to make. I love my rugby, and I know it's these guys careers, but the way SOB folded indicates poor decision making and poor understanding of how a body repairs itself by the folks making these decisions. And I would hope such mistakes are not repeated too often because there is a young person's livelihood at stake.

Anyway moving on, anyone know what's the story with David Horowitz. He seems to have fallen off the end of the world?

Wasn't rated for Brumbies, isn't rated at all for Connacht, not a single minute vs Montpellier, the only game he was on the teamsheet...

A very good point I look forward to your detailed report which is full of regular read outs for targets SOB was hitting or missing. I'm particularly looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them with your years of experience in the s&c world.

Another thing that I'm really looking forward to are the quotes from SOB explaining how he was able able to convince the management and s&c team that he was fine to play even though all data said that he wasn't

I leave it with your indignatious self. I wasn't trying to step on feet.

Was a totally wild punt in the first place I think. Turned out as expected, presume hell be gone at the end of the season

Bit dramatic. I'd say hes very close to joining Bundee as our best player, with Butler, Tom Farrell and and in form Jack not too far behind

Huge heart... He gives weight to all players in the pack but fights like hell

Surprising to see Makysmiw starting, wonder if it’s a bit of trying to have impact off the bench? Porch at full back isn’t ideal either, Healy must be injured? Porch probably hadn’t played 15 in a long time......

    https://www.connachtrugby.ie/butler-returns-to-captain-connacht-in-champions-cup-clash-against-gloucester/

"while a late injury to Matt Healy sees John Porch switching from the wing to full back"

And Maksymiw over Dillane is an interesting call. Boyle not in the 23?

The inconsistency in the team/squad line up can't be a good thing

I'm not worried about Porch, he can cause havoc with space allowed at FB

Otherwise I'm not complaining at all (compared to McCabe starting in Toulouse)
Close to our best team IMO (including Robb I love), except Maskymiw (and Burke/Murphy/Kerrins on the bench)

No rain expected. Connacht win. Optimistic, it's rare!

I like Maksymiw has all the tools to be a top quality Lock. He's found out the hard way this year what it takes to play at the top level ( he looked shellshocked coming off against Leinster) just needs a bit of bite in his game and experience and gametime to take that next step.

And releasing Dilllane on Gloucester at 60 minutes I like the sound of that. He's more Mobile, and can empty the tank for that 20 odd minutes.

Macksymiw isn't bad but does not gain meters, which is Connacht need..

I would say, as a Connacht supporter of many years, we continue to be a little weak when exposed by injury. But I think Friend has done a decent job in bringing players forward and allowing those weaknesses not to look quite so weak. So names are added to the equation and given their chance. Putting Ultan on the bench was some call but it allows Joe to show his stuff. And I think that's a good call.

Will Goddard playing 10 for Wegians, probably not what he had in mind when he signed. Josh Dunne is at 6.

Interesting. Maybe a replacement for Horwitz next season.

Jesus BT going absolutely spare about how long scrums take. Way over the top. Bitching about scrums taking 30 seconds, if they think that's an issue maybe they should be watching league.

Ya Healy. Need a bit more of a lead with that wind. Although we tend to do okay against the wind.

Penalty in front of the posts. Nonsense from Gloucester, got what they deserved there.

Even for Cipriani that was one of the stupidest things I've seen on a rugby field.

Thanks for the belly laugh Dan.

Always staggers me that professional rugby players don't know the laws of the game.

That said, I agree with Healey, I suspect that Cippers miskicked that dropout.

We're really struggling to defend Gloucester's double option plays in midfield, rain might help us in that regard.

    10 point swing there.

Gloucester get away with a man lying on the Connacht side slowing it down and the next phase of play get the intercept try.

Carty struggling for form since coming back from the World Cup. Seems like he's been replaced in every game he's started recently.
