Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not easy with a few of us running things and access to bank accounts etc. However if there is enough interest in it, I can look at putting something in place

    I'd be ok pre booking/paying

Ive run the work society for the last 3 years normally 30-35 players and I know the work that goes in. Nothing worse than a lad late or not showing up! It causes unneeded stress to organisers. I normally go out last to settle up with the club before I go out and your the one whos running the tee box never get a warm up etc

Another gripe I have is lads who go and shoot 40 points and don't stick around the 45 mins to hour afterwards for the presentation knowing there getting a prize. We started to dq lads who did that for Capts and Pres days.

Just an idea re prepayments maybe a new PayPal account or Revolut account lads transfer green fee to confirm attendance.

Aha Charlie yes I am, will have to stop smiling so.

I think if the prepay option can be done it would definitely simplify things for those organising on the day.
It’s not really an ideal pre round routine trying to square off names and green fees

Surely you can understand that? Sure you will find out about it when you're Captain next year ;) ...lol...

If that ever happens expect 8 trips to Tipp. I'll do a round robin of the 2 closes courses to my house.

  • Registered Users Posts: 269 ✭✭doublecross

I'm all for prepaying, but only if it makes life easier for the organisers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 478 ✭✭a post punk

I’ve no problem with prepaying myself whatever is handiest for space coyote! Looking forward to the New Year and the quest for the Ryder Jug begins again...............Will the winter lessons Pay off:/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,631 ✭✭✭willabur

I'd have no problem paying up front, I'd imagine something like revolut would be a good solution for this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,159 ✭✭✭benny79

It was my biggest bug bearer last year as you cant relax and then are running to tee hence why I played crap ..lol.. My excuse anyway. But in fairness we are generally good as no shows are concerned only the odd 1 or 2. Especially for a internet Golf forum. But its the 1 or 2 that messes it up for everyone..

People know that rules so if they mess up its on them. If they pay the green fee at next outing its no biggie. Its just they say they will and dont.. Not only does this eat into the kitty but could deny someone from playing in reserve on the big courses. Some of the lesser courses are ok with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,958 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

considering the transient nature of the society, online payment would be more complex and needing more management than existing system . Unless supported by teamer .

People fairly clear now that no messing, so communication on issue probably gets you there .

people could offer to take turns to be first at club to collect money and get people away rather than falling to one person all the time.

If I can help at any outing let us know.

Membership fees up front before Portmarnock would be ideal so you don't get lads taking advantage like they will join, get cheap green fee on premium course then not to be seen again till next biggie comes up .Just my rant out of the way..BTW can I pay on the drip..lol

Someone else, maybe, you, definitely not! Was going to ask for your green fees for every event up front in Portmarnock

As far as I know Teamer can set up payment methods for us.
Anyway, if everyone gets there early enough and pays Space for the event straight away it will take a lot of pressure off him. There’s a nice bit of organising to each event between taking payments, membership, doing cards etc.

Maybe teamer is a good idea so.

I suspect that Teamer's fees are greater than the money lost due to no shows

It’s actually not too bad. 2.9% and 25 cents per transaction

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,028 ✭✭✭paulos53

Roughly that would work out as 30 Teamer transactions equals 1 green fee.

So it would depend on how often we have to pay out for extra green fees

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,958 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

It is beginning to sound like stick to the old paper and pen.

Up to captain at the end of the day , I think it was god to put things out in open.

Just seen a good bit of stress last year for a few people and it wasn't right.

Just a quick update for all golfers.

Thanks to our inside man, GolfGraffix, we've managed to secure 2 extra tee slots, which brings our quota up to 44 slots available for the society. So, the tee times now run from 11-12.40.

As things stand, we currently have 45 accepted golfers on Teamer, so only one golfer sitting in the reserve queue. That person is, at the moment, TimGolfer.

As has been mentioned previously, if there are any users with a change in circumstances, can they please update as urgently as possible.

Thanks again to GolfGraffix, and looking forward to seeing all of the extra members out there on the day

**EDIT - UPDATE** Due to a slight circumstance change, Kiith has moved onto the reserve list & TimGolfer now has a slot on the day

  • Registered Users Posts: 370 ✭✭Break80

I could take an early slot if possible

The prospective of 44 golfers playing on the day......That's a fantastic turnout and its great for the society to kick off the year in such fashion. Some amount of membership monies being paid in on the day I hope. ;)

I know that you tubers are a love hate thing for golfers. But here is a you tube vlog . Lads very hungover and were blessed with the weather , but maybe worth a watch.

Imagine Golf Ireland paid them to do this. You tube is nuts.

Can people please arrive as early as they can possibly manage? Will be a bit more admin to cover off as its the first event of the year & numbers are high. A small reminder.

    Membership €30
    Green Fee €55
There will be a 2s competition on the day, with, strangely enough a buy in of €2

On the day there'll be the usual Stableford competition, as well as a Longest Drive & Nearest The Pin competition

    Tee Time|Player 1|Player 2|Player 3|Player 4

    12:40|spacecoyote|pakman|Lord Derpington|thelostboys23
    Reserve List|rossyd2005

Where people have requested specific times, I've looked to accommodate. Otherwise, I've tried my best to balance a mix of Old & New members & handicap ranges.
    .
Any major issues with a time, please let me know asap, and again, please let us know about any changes of circumstances.

For those looking to hit some full length shots before their round, Kinsealy Driving Range (http://kinsealy-grange.com/) is about a 6-7 minute drive from the course

well done and thank you Space, I know it ain't easy trying to juggle and cater for everyone's demands to organise the time sheets

Just wanted to put up a few pointers early enough for people to have a read beforehand. I know that this will be obvious to some and familiar to most, but no harm to list things up:
    • There will be a starter on the first tee, please be respectful, and follow their instruction. Be ready at the first tee 10 minutes ahead of your tee time
    • Take a bag of sand out with you. If you make a divot, don't replace the turf, fill the divot with the sand mix
    • The Society plays "Ready Golf". This means that you don't need to observe who has the honour on each tee box. If you're ready to hit, get up & do so. It keeps things flowing. Follow a similar approach across the whole course. If you're a yard ahead on the fairway, but you can play & your partner can't, go ahead & play your shot. We're a friendly (but competitive) society, not playing on the PGA Tour.
    • If in doubt, shout "FORE"
    • If in doubt, hit a provisional ball off the tee. Better to have a ball out there & not need it rather than hike back to the tee box/original spot
    • You have 3 minutes to find a lost ball from the time you arrive at the spot you believe it to be. For playing partners, if someone is searching and you're in a position to hit your ball, can you please hit first before helping your partners search. Again, this keeps things flowing
    • If you've scratched a hole, pick up the ball. Do not continue to play until you've holed out. It slows things down massively. For reference, once you've hit a net double-bogey, that's a scratch
    • For the "nearest the pin" hole, your first tee shot has to be on the green to be eligible. If you see 1 name on the sheet and they're closer than you, put down your measure, as if someone wins another prize, we will give 2nd closest the prize.
    • Similarly, for the "Longest Drive" hole, your first drive must be on the Fairway to qualify. If you're a touch short, and there's only one name on the board stick your name & how much further back you were from the leader & you may pick up the prize
    • Scores will be double-checked on the day, but we'd appreciate if you take your best care to get the points correct on the card you are marking for your partner. If you're not sure what you're doing, ask you're partners for a bit of guidance.
    • If you have a 2 on any hole, can you mark it clearly & legibly so its easy to track all 2s when the cards are being double-checked.
    • Finally, and most of all, enjoy yourself

I think I've covered most things, but if anyone has any other points, please feel free to post them

There is a putting green. Short game practice area with bunkers. Also one or two nets

    All available

Sad to miss this one, but I am still unable to swing a club. I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon tomorrow so here is to hoping he has a treatment plan that will get me back out on the course this year.
