Why is the Garda Public Order Unit not deployed a lot more often to deal with these nuisance protesters who have nothing better to be at. I mean the troublesome protesters like she who shall not be named and all the other Muppets who shout peaceful protest and try to involve the constitution at every opportunity even though none of them have a clue about what the constitution actually means? If I were in charge I'd release the Public Order Unit every day until these malcontents get the hint.

Exactly. Today inspired my post. They seem to be way under utilised. Send them out ta **** and let them have their fun with the "peaceful protestors". I think 99% of the country would be glad to see it

Beat/Restrain them, arrest them, charge them and repeat as required. They'll soon get fed up

Because the Public Order Unit is made up of regular members who are assigned the duty (and have the training completed). They're not full time if I recall, so in order to use them members from other stations/areas have to give up their duties to perform the public order duties, leaving other stations short. There are not enough members to have a full time public order unit.

Correct and the members called into the Public Order Unit to police events are likely on rest days so it means paying overtime for them to work and we know how much everyone hates the Gardai claiming overtime

No worse than the ‘BLM’ protests at the height of the first lockdown.

Clowns with their Ireland flags claiming to be "patriots" need a good walloping.

"Yerrrrra brainwashed by the meeeja" this wan was shouting at a security guard on Henry St yesterday when she wasn't allowed in for no mask.

Useless knobs, the lot of them.

Public order training is great craic....until it gets rough, then its no craic.

Heres a clip of a combined DF/AGS/NAS public order training.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F9yoT5zN8Io

Its a soft one, usually they are much rougher.

There are Guards standing on Motorways for the last 3 weeks waving at people and the vast majority of them are on overtime. Public Order Units are money well spent in my humble opinion

The Gardai standing on motorways are not trained public order members and there isn't enough trained public order members to maintain a constant presence so either way the Gardai on the motorway aren't effecting them either way

So you're saying there simply aren't enough public order trained guards to deal with these protests? Well that's just great so. How are they ever gonna sort the problem out then? Its a free for all for the great unwashed

Pretty much, like every other unit, there aren't enough

Great seeing them finally take these covidiots on. Hopefully they deal with these so called anti-maskers permanently like this from now onwards!

Public Order unit are just regular guards who've undertaken the training. They aren't a full time unit & are all on OT on days off.

Also, the majority of these protesters are craving a reaction from the guards/state so they can scream oppression and use it for police brutality propaganda purposes. If they aren't violent and aren't causing damage, best thing you can do is let them whine themselves out. Certainly not worth filling up every cell in the city centre with them. In the days pre camera phone you'd ideally just give them a hiding and be done with it.

Almost every soldier is public order trained.

Not that they would be routinely requested to deploy but have been on stand by a number of times.

The army have trained AGS members, no idea why they arent all trained in Templemore.

So there was multiple protests in Ireland by Nigerians about Police Brutality in Nigeria as if holding a protest here would actually make any difference, this was allowed despite breaking social distancing etc. the guards actually facilitated it and helped them. A protest by Irish then against the lockdown sees the Irish get hammered by the Gardai. Will the Nigerians protest against Garda brutality in Lagos tomorrow?, now with all things being equal shouldn't both groups either get helped and facilitated or else equally thrashed by the Guards. Perhaps the GO'D crew should recruit a few of the SARS Nigerians onto their side because it seems the Guards are afraid to challenge them for fear of being labelled racist.

Water canon to beat them while socially distancing.

Fill it with soapy water. It will help suppress the virus.

I'd love to see some sources for this considering your post history is full of ****.

The Nigerians knew how to have manners at their protests. Our clowns didn't and therefore got a hiding and arrested. Which was wonderful to see. I'm all for peaceful protesting but this rent a mob anti mask crew should be hammered every time they step out of line

There was a great video doing the rounds the other day of armed Gardai arresting the usual turds of society who were carrying machetes. You wouldn't have looked twice at the armed Garda with his gun in your face shouting at you to stay down. Brilliant stuff like the public order unit.

There's plenty out there for whom policing by consent is a non runner.
