Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Airlines restrictions for pet travel

    Hi,

After 11 years in Irland i am finally moving back to Germany and want to bring my cat with me.

My friend recently travelled with her cat with KLM and after some research I decided to book with them too.

My cat is a large breed (he is a mix but there is Norwegian forest cat in there) and he's a little on the heavy side which means between him and the carrier he is 0.2kg over the allowed 8kg weight limit.

Does he need to go on a strict diet or do you think I'll get him onto the plane even if he's a bit over?

I will be flying from Dublin.

    Does anyone have any experience?

    Thanks in advance!

No direct experience (and maybe animal and pet issues would be a good place to look for people who have) - but do you really want to risk it - its quite expensive to do and would be a lot of stress (on top of the stress of flying with COVID precautions, getting the cat into the carrier etc). To be turned away at the gate would be a pain (although I would imagine you would probably be ok..).

For a cpl hundred g, it should be possible to get his weight down (if he is a touch overweight anyway).
If not an option, can you adapt the carrier in any way?

I'll will try to get his weight down but I wanted to know what would happen if I do not manage to get him below the weight as I am supposed to fly in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try animal and pet issues 😊

    Ouch that's pretty soon..!

Is it in the cabin or in the hold?

I'm tempted to say that it will be fine if it is genuinely 0.2kg - bathroom etc means there will be fluctuations anyway and that doesn't sound much over?

Animal and pets forum probably got more experience - good luck and safe travels!
