Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ya but he's got a Gibson SG :)

Great job on your one, now can you please get started on building me a Tron cab !!

Have you seen how much a set of tron cab stickers are?
    600 dollas!

Its the art that makes those cabs.
I need to get a new bezel for mine.
The wear at the top is wrecking my head already:rolleyes:

Yep its serious bucks alright for the full set of artwork with the blacklight stuff. And probably a few more hundred for the joystick and spinner..

So, lets just say you were to build these things, lets call them repro cabs, how much would a Robotron cab cost someone??

    No idea ciderman,
best bet would be to get all the bits together and hire someone to make it.
    research/planning is key.
youd need a metal cp aswell tho i think?

That is a thing of beauty sir, fair play to you!

  • Somebody tipped me to have a look at this thread.
Some serious craftsmanship on show here. Just wow, well done.

Is this just a hobby / pastime or do you build on request?

    Hobby for me,
My uncle is the master craftsman!
He does kitchens/bars/wardrobes/anything for a living.
I'm sure he'd be willing to make anything!
He based just outside of newbridge.

yep sticker looks much better closer to the top in the 1st picture alright.

I'd say I might have to watch out for a donor cab, then convert it.
The CP is pretty unique, though the upright's seem easy to adapt.

Get a hammer, a nail and a nice piece of wood...and make something that you didn't think you could!

Now I'm sure I'm missing a few steps but its doable!

This thread has got me wanting to get on something myself. I'd like to give a go at making a mini cab. Like 2/3 size cab would pretty cool I think. Pointless but would be cool

If I could be trusted to measure a piece of wood & get a remotely accurate reading I'd try some kind of DIY sitdown-driver cab.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

    Just measure twice cut once!

I got the side art on and the stick/buttons/cpo in place.
I'd like to say the side art was a piece of piss to get on but it was far from it.
Bit of a nightmare in fact because of air bubbles.
No matter how slow or fast we went we kept getting them.
They even seemed to be appearing in places.
Any way got it on as good as possible so happy enough! Pics to follow!

Did you spray the back with soapy water and squueegy it on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

If you used soapy water the air bubbles should disappear over the next couple days.

    Just measure twice cut once!

That doesn't help when you get two different measurements :D I just can't do woodwork :(

    Give it a go,
I'm a registered nurse and can talk you through any first aid assistance you will inevitably require, up to but just not including accidental amputation by saw.

So puncture yourself with a screwdriver, staple your eyelid to your knee or plane off a kneecap and I can probably advise you, as long as your fingers are still capable of typing and you've at least one functional eye remaining.

Let's see that Mame driving cab!

So again i spent all day yesterday wiring!
I cant believe how slow it was (and its not 100% finished) but I got there!

Heres the little panel for quick swapping of control panels.
    2014-05-03+14.58.28.jpg

Next up power and admin buttons.(one spare button)
The buttons were too small to mount on 15mm ply so used that little toolbox insert as a holder.Actually worked out perfectly!
    2014-05-03+16.29.38.jpg

Monitor chassis on and monitor bolted to its holder and inserted!(no chassis in that pic!must of been a test fit!)
You can see the PSU in the bottom.I was using a jamma psu but it died
luckaly I had a hacked atx psu I could use to get it running.
I'll be putting a jamma psu back in it next week.

    2014-05-03+16.51.15.jpg

So last night I fired it up and all wasnt well
    I got this crap.
    2014-05-03+21.08.53.jpg

Played around with it a bit but couldnt get it right at all so emailed grant (gunblade) and left it for the night.

So this moring I went at it again with a fresh head and some gunbalde advice and !it works! reflowed 3 points on the remote board that were snaped off at a jumper point and here she is 98% finished!:D:D:D

    2014-05-04+12.03.09.jpg
    2014-05-04+12.11.13.jpg

Overall im extremely happy with the finish.
I way underestimated how much time this has taken but im glad I put the extra hours into and got something so nice!

    whats left to do:
    lock for the front,
    replace psu
    speaker mesh
    and thats it I think!

    bonus pic.
the cat looking at me in a box for a change :)

Last night I fitted the Jamma PSU I got off someone here ( 5 months ago)
Cleaned up the wiring and fitted a quick disconnect so the monitor can come out without tools.
also got the coins mechs going!
Need to make a card bezel/black out and I think its finished............

Just coming up on 5 years since I started this project

    where has the time gone??
Recently moved the DK back into the dining room so its getting a lot more lay.

I have something similar in the works.........watch this space

Finally wrapped this project up at the weekend :o
Impending house move means it was finally time to fit the wheels at the back.
I had to change the "foot" of the machine to make it a bit taller so its more comfortable to play.
Now it can be tilted back on onto the wheels and moved easily.
Also fitting the back door lock,
rewired the CP and finally changed the 4 way microswitch stick to a leaf switch !
