Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Let's enjoy the game vs Munster this afternoon and Glasgow, we have no idea if there will be others :(

yep, but to be honest, they have to find a way to keep the games going, They are all young

    Watching this live stream.

    Dreadful discipline from Connacht.

    Off the pace so far.

This could be a hammering. 19-5 with 16 mins gone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭JohnniDrama

    Butler in bin.

Too many penalties. Poor team discipline.

Heffernan with big break but Byrne turnover.

Resourcing of ruck again a problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,846 ✭✭✭siltirocker

Awful showing from what is essentially a Connacht team, that on paper, would have been confident of winning this.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭JohnniDrama

    Half time 26-5.

    4 tries to 1.

    Shocking really.

    Host of changes for Munster.

    Buckley, Roux, Sean Masterson on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭JohnniDrama

    Tommy O’Donnell in bin.

I don't like criticising young players but de Buitléar's defence is absolutely dreadful, I'd be very worried to see him playing in meaningful games.

Fully agree. Looks lost out there but he is not alone.

    Full time.

    40-12.

6 tries and all too easy for Munster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭JohnniDrama

    Far too easy for Munster.

Game was over after 20 minutes and Connacht failed to fire a meaningful shot thereafter.

    The bad.
You would hope it is pre season rust but....

    Team lacking leadership throughout.
Captain. Pack. Half backs. Our senior players. Devoid of real leadership and ultimately control.

Pack were very passive. Totally bullied up front.

Poor discipline. Too many penalties. Giving up hard fought field position.

Ongoing problems at ruck and maul.

    No control from half backs.

    Defence was very weak throughout.

Form of our senior players a real worry. Dillane, Roux, E. Masterson, Butler, Marmian, Carty, Farrell, TOH all equally poor.

Squad Quality a concern based on these few games.

I hate saying it but we look badly coached. No obvious game plan or control.

    The good?
    Not much:(

    Scrum was decent throughout.

Oliver, Murray, Sean Masterson had a positive impact over those who started.

Front row was reasonable, esp Heffernan.

    Hard to find much more.

So hopefully just early form but that performance is a worry one week out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

So 95% of our main team, bar Aki, lost (again) by 40 points to 75% of Munster team (not even in front of a real crowd)
very worrying even if friendlies aren't stable indication
On the plus side, Thornbury and Sullivan were both good and muscular

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭JohnniDrama

Munster have some exciting young talent too.

They are not far off cracking the formula.

Just think they need a better DOR/ Head coach.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

Now you know the reason why we need Roux and Papali'i (in Aki surplus of course).
Add beef in this non-physical team
And both have to learn how not to conceed more than 2 pens a game...

I understand the need but Roux is very poor recently. Very poor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

This only one you're harsh about IMO was Farrell. Wasn't bad at all
    The rest...
both Butler and Oliver are decent
Yeah good front-row, as last week
    And Porchy OK too

    So we have

    n° 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 , 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18 (with covers for props)

better to see it this way

Dillane can raise his level for n°4 IMO

n°8, 6, and 15 are not solved problems, let's see when Papali'i/O'Donnell/SOB/Gallagher/Dowling will bring competition
and spirit, more fighting sprit, we need this

I've agreed about that for more than a year.
And that's a big issue, he'd to come back better, as he can be

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

    No injuries, at least ?

I wouldn't worry, it was a nothing game, more of a training run to be honest. No continuity and guys playing for 15 minutes at a time. A complete non entity of a game - you could tell that because JJ didn't miss any kicks :D

He hasn't played since last December

    That’s true.

Munster’s T Byrne was out for a long time as an example but has been very good?
    James Ryan has been out.
    Kleyn.
    Others.

Hope he gets better. To be fair, whole team can!

    Good sign:)

Had a horror show defensively in the Munster game just after lockdown, 4th year in the academy so very much prove it or loose it year

Yep and when you see the stock of Kilgannon and Peter Sullivan, it is going to be tough for him.

I hope he makes it. He is home produced so especially important for us to be as successful as possible with him.

In fairness one of those years was lost to a pretty big injury which he is only coming back from

Yes of course and that might somewhat explain the hesitancy and poor reads but from the outside looking in the fundamental skills aren’t there. Hopefully he’ll get consistent AIL/A rugby under his belt and improve quickly.

Trying to get the match (full or highlights even) on youtube, but it's saying it's private. Anyone have a link at all?

200 1885 club members will be drawn to attend although I assume that is subject to Galway going to Level 3

    you mean level 1

we're (the majority of the country) currently in level 2

you dont want to go to level 3

I presumed that the poster meant to say "I assume that is subject to Galway not going to Level 3", since Level 2 allows:
up to 200 for outdoor stadia or other fixed outdoor venues with a minimum accredited capacity of 5,000

Dillane only concern for Saturday (HIA)

On other point, Irish TH is in crisis (O'Toole, Furlong injured), chance for Finlay now!!

I hadn't renewed for 2020 2021 but I'm still a member of the 1885 club. I was a season ticket holder last year and took the option to join rather than a refund on the remaining home games for last season.

So I'd say most season ticket holders from last year will be in in the draw

You've got a Friend in me
Me and my dad have a ST each on the one account. I got the email about the draw for Saturday and says I can just apply for one ticket. I presume I can apply for one each and just fill out the form a second with his name? Anyone else have multiple tickets on the one account able to help?

Might be best to email Connacht and check with them
