These zinc batteries don't last a fraction of the time that the alkaline batteries last.

Agree on the rechargeable ones. Once you have bought the charger the batteries will last for years.

On the non-rechargeable ones - when they will no longer run kids toys, cameras etc. they will still do for remotes.

Penneys do cheap AA and AAA Alkaline batteries. Doubt they're as good as big brand but think they are 2 euro or so for 10 and do an alright job imo.

Get "ready to use" rechargeable batteries, Ikea do them and they appear fairly regularly in Lidl.

We've switched to rechargables. Bought the better quality Amazon charger. It has an LED readout on it so you can see the quality of the batteries and has individual charging slots. The last one I had needed to be charged in pairs.


Picked up batteries on Amazon and in Ikea. Will pick up some more when I get a chance. Always have spares charged in a case I bought on Amazon. Just switch them when needed and charge the used ones.


Much better than buying single use batteries all the time. Bit more expensive at the beginning but works out better in the long run if you buy decent batteries that can be charged 1000+ times.

I bought these exact batteries last week for a trial camera. I've had them in a week and still 50%. Be aware that these will drop to 50% fairly rapidly but will remain at that level for a long time because they are 1.2v and not the 1.5v like alkaline.

I use rechargeables for nearly everything but for a smoke detector I would I'd been inclined to just use alkalines.
