Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tape recorder karaoke thing

    I want to buy something like the above for a child but have no idea what I'm looking for.

    I'd like something they can record with and sing along with a cd using a microphone. You can't do that with CD players can you? I don't want an adult-style voice recorder, and I don't want to spend a fortune on a small child.

    What kind of a machine am I looking for??

    You may (or may not) be in the wrong forum. However, I am sure I have seen junior karaoke sets in Smyth's Toy shops.

    Do these record you though, or just play your voice alongside the CD? Would he have to record himself on something else and connect it? Don't think he has anything to record on. Does anything do both?

    (I put this in this forum because I've never used an mp3 player or iPod etc, never mind a karaoke machine. Feeling a bit out of touch 😯)

    We're all old folk here so you might be better on a parenting type forum. Or a tech one.

    She might get more sympathy here though! Post in the Computer questions thread, the odd expert comes along to advise, but the easiest thing is to just look at Amazon or similar and read the ratings as well

    I can't really answer that as I didn't investigate them, just saw them in passing. I occasionally hit the toy shops for myself, no grandchildren yet!! :D So, you've never used an mp3 player or iPod. You've come home! Pull up a chair, I'll put the kettle on. :)

    Lol - I'm not Rip Van Winkle!

    I may have had an mp3 player put into my hand once or twice but they quickly found their way into a drawer. I don't like using headphones. Though I did have a Walkman once upon a time.

    I think I'll have to go into a toy shop, or Curry's or somewhere, and reveal my ignorance to some spotty boy who will snigger about me behind my back.

    Anything I've seen online isn't it, and most are mad expensive. I mean the electronics for doing this have been known for donkey's years, parts are cheap as chips and the rest is plastic. I'm not taking about concert hall sound quality here.

    Yeah, but he's too young for a phone. Doesn't have one and I'll not be the one to give him his first. Think I just need to wander the shops and annoy the assistants :P

    I've never thought of the O&O forum as being age defined rather it's a state of mind. There are some very young oulwans out there (and more that a few juvenile oulfellas in here).

    I find the staff in Smyths generally very helpful, I'd try there first, if there is one near you.

    Thank you! I did come across this in searching but the reviews are poor, seems inclined to break down. It doesn't record either, as far as I can see.

    But yes, I think Smyths could do with a visit

    On 22nd December Lidl will have a Karaoke Set for sale for €49.99. I don't think it records but check their website for the 22nd Dec.
