The more I look at it the more I feel like its a baby, heavily downgraded with carebear mechanics Rustwith fallout skins. This thing will tank to the bottom and fast.

Fallout universe is interesting, because of the setting, characters, world, humour, oddities etc. When you take out characters and npcs the whole world just falls apart.

Yeah its an SP game for me, not really arsed with that type of PVP and babycore.

To you maybe, otherwise not even slightly.

Yeah to me. Its an RPG in my mind. Whatever this is and fallout 4 was are garbage.

Why even put them in the same sentence. This is an online PVP/PVE base building game. Fallout 4 is still an RPG, bit diluted maybe but still an RPG at its core. Pretty sure it's the best selling game in the franchise too. I probably prefered FO3 or New Vegas relative to when they came out but it's still a great game.

Yeah, i've absolutely no interest in this tbh. As above, Fallout is a single player game, with interesting characters and quests. Remove all of that, and VATs, and you can barely even call it a Fallout game. The gunplay in Fallout 4 wasn't exactly good, and that's pretty much what this will be judged on.

All I want from the Bethesda RPGS - be they Fallout or Elder Scrolls - is the ability to play one of their games co-op. None of this only online with PVP and no NPCs, but have a drop-in/drop-out co-op option and be PVE only. It's not a small ask from a technical POV, I understand this, but that's what I'd wish they'd made this game into.

I will admit to not watching much gameplay but reading all the negatives i just had to turn to one of the good fallout content creators for his thoughts.

I get caught in the hype every time. 3 was OK but I never finished it, 4 was worse, the whole settlement building thing felt off and overall I was sorry I got it. Saw that video yesterday (a little of the gameplay) and it piqued my interest :(
    but I don't think I'll get it.

    This.

Black Isle-style isometric CRPG with co-op would be brilliant.

It's not the first time i've heard/read people wishing for it either. Even in different genre, the demand seems to be there and seems to go on deaf ears/blind eyes. There are some great co-op games and some great RPG's, but never the twain shall meet it seems.

  • No NPCs, what's the mission structure. Fetch quests and random encounters with PVE
    Such Meh

Taking out NPCs is like taking out the one of the best parts of what makes Fallout a Fallout game.

It'll still have bugs and run like a pig until a few patches so its got the fallout motif

Really Bethesda lost my interest when Fallout 4 came out; it just felt so bland, out of date on day one and out of any good new ideas.
Oh but you can build a settlement and have not at all annoying repetitive quests as a result; don't worry we've also butchered the dialogue system in case you liked that too.

I played the stress test last night for the 4 hours it was open.

At the end of it, I was disappointed I couldn't play more. I was genuinely enjoying it.

There's definitely enough quests to keep you going anyway, I was overwhelmed as usual with any of these games with the amount to do.

I know there's not supposed to be any human NPC's but the robot ones I came across were actually funny and engaging.

The whole time I could see other real players on the map and in the world going about their business but apart from using the emoji wheel towards each other, that was the only contact we had.

There's also live events that occur at random points on the map (you can fast travel straight to them using bottle caps) that get you to work together with other players. The last one I did last night was to get a cumulative 50 firefly lights between all players and deposit them in the light at the top of the lighthouse. You get random rewards such as stimpacks and building supplies.

All in all, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Who knows how long it would keep you engaged for post-release but the amount I played was definitely fun. The biggest downside now is its release window. Bang right between Red Dead and Battlefield V.

Watched some of the gameplay of this over the weekend and it just looks completely soulless - nothing at all about this game is saying "buy me". It's like they took F4, removed all the NPC's and settlements, and turned it in to a multiplayer. Add to that the insane release window and I think this is really going to bomb hard.

  • Having loads of things to do is all well and good but I'd rather have a select amount of engaging / innovative things to do.
This is where this game will suffer I suspect. A social aspect carrying a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I was going to pick this up as a day one purchase but the last few weeks I've soured my opinion on it so I'll probably wait until around Christmas to pick it up.

None of my mates will be picking it up either and I don't think it will be a great game to go solo through the wasteland.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm thinking. Agree with the comments on how poor Fallout 4 was by comparison to its predecessors, so that doesn't fill me with hope on 76.

Has it the potential to completely tank? Or is there enough of a loyal fanbase to buy it anyway?

The BETA can now be pre-loaded for those who have pre-ordered on XB1: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/fallout-76-beta/bxrlgwwbj9r7

All progress from the BETA carries over to the full game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,405 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

when is the pc beta might try get in to give it a bash with extremely low expectations or is that xbox one the same for pc ehh... windows store confuses me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,784 ✭✭✭froog

the lack of any meaningful endgame is worrying. drop nukes, farm. that seems to be it. which would be fine if this was a traditional full storied single player effort but it seems like a watered down version of previous fallouts with more emphasise on co-op survival. I hope I'm wrong.

Strange your progress is carried over for Xbox users.

After watching videos for this recently, I must say I've gone from being on the fence to being aboard the hype train.

Someone in a previous comment mentioned the lack of music being meh but according to one of the videos I watched the guy playing said they weren't allowed use the music stations because of copyright.

I like the wilderness and to me it suits the game, especially since you are one of the first out of the vault only twenty years after the bombs hit. I like to think that what we do in the game will be shaping the previous games we played etc.

Bethesda warns fans to expect spectacular bugs at launch. I guess bug testing is a thing of the past, when you can just launch the game in a broken state and rely on the people who paid for it to report them.

The balls on them. You can forgive or expect that stuff from a dev making a game on their own or a tiny team but a quick google says this shower are worth anywhere from $1.3 to $3 billion. Up your standards.

But looking at the replies to their tweet, people adore being ridden by game companies.

  • I watched alot of the Beta
It actually looks like a mod for Fallout 4 without a story / plot or NPCs

Terrible game-play, and the performance is awful

Totally shocked and astounded by this. It's so unlike Betheda to release a game that's bug-riddled, glitchy and broken as hell on release.

I think some article hit perfectly about 76.
" Its going to be new No Mans sky. "
Enough said in one sentence and thats how I feel about it too.
I might pick it up after very heavy discount just to feck around in it for Fallout flavour. Not going near this at launch.

I played the beta on PC last night and absolutely loved it. It was so atmospheric . I quite enjoyed the fact that there were no npcs there. Picking up holotapes and notes gave me a real sense of the destruction. Would definately recommend the game .

Would not let me log in at all, kept saying I was offline, then without warning started to re-download the entire 44 odd GB... so missed the whole thing. Lease we get a super long play test in a days time.

They should have just made fallout 4.1 with npcs and all that good stuff that we love, bring back certain elements of fallout 3, having to repair weapons etc and forget about this multiplayer game until they can perfect it.

Perfecting anything isn't really Bethesda's MO. This probably boils down to "We're missing out on microtransactions big time here. Slap Pip-Boy on something and throw it out there."

Seems other would disagree on that due to the issues around picking them up etc.

And honestly there is some great stupidity in design decisions such as locking game speed to frame rate in a game with PvP (i.e. faster movement speed AND faster shooting/melee rate) that is only going to be fixed after go live...

I probably wasn't going to get it anyway, but i'm definitely not getting it after everything i've seen over the last few days. The main issue it'll face is the fact that the combat in Fallout 4 wasn't particularly good, and this entire game is based on the combat. Without a proper story or npc's, it loses what most people actually played Fallout for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭Notorious

Hold on. I saw someone mentioned no NPCs earlier, but I assumed that was just for the beta. Is there no NPCs at all?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Nope, none at all apparently. You get some recordings of dead people but that's about it. bar enemies and player characters).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Its an interesting enough idea, I just dont think it warrants a full game release.

They probably could have tacked it on as a DLC for Fallout 4 and charged €15/20 and it might have been worth it.

I dont think I'll be spending money on it anyway, it sounds like a right mess and I was hyped for this when it was first announced.

Agreed, full price is too much for this. I managed to pre-order it digitally on Xbox from Argentina for e20 or so. Otherwise I wouldn't bother getting it.
