Small diesel SUV advice

Posting this on behalf of a friend. Looking to buy a small Diesel Suv to do around 25k a year. Budget is around 20k euros. Did a bit or research myself on this and it appears the Mazda Cx3 ticks alot of boxes. Folks on here might know better though. Thanx in advance:)

Is that 25k km or 25k miles per year? What sort of roads will it driven on? Small SUV crossovers are based on small city cars so the suspension and comfort won't be as good as a slight bigger car. For example something like a Qashqai would be a good bit more comfortable on long journeys over the smaller Juke, etc.

25km - will be travelling on the M50 plus trips to the West on rougher roads

Probably no need to limit themselves to a diesel, anything over 25k I’d say go for diesel but at 25k I think either would suit. They would probably save a bit in fuel costs from a diesel but I’m guessing the resale value of the petrol would be higher in years to come

Suzuki Vitara fairly rock solid in this segment.Getting a higher spec GL one would still undercut the more common ones vw/puegot bought in the segment.Mitsubishi ASX also very reliable.

Vitara feels like it was designed over 10 years ago though especially the interior.

Yeah thats the trade off i suppose Bazz.Both it and mitsubishi seem to major on reliability than style.But if you wanted trouble free driving they do fit bill.List prices are well down on competitors though so it is well worth getting the higher spec to bring bit of improvement in equipment etc.Friend got a vitara sz t last year and is finding it a good overall package and when he was buying found that tiguan rav 4 etc were priced far higher.He intends to drive for long term in vitara and was not convinced the higher trade in value of the tiguan etc was as big a factor for him.

Renault's French turbocharged DCI engine, cheap to insure, cheap to run, €200 road tax. It so economical and reliable German Mercedes-Benz and Japan Nissan decided to use it.

Nissan didn’t really have any say in what diesel engine they get to use

Renault own 43% of Nissan.

You are right about it being a good engine though.

Any Merc fitted with a 1.5 litre or 1.6 litre diesel engine will be a Renault engine.

Thanx for the suggests folks - I know its getting harder and harder to source this type of vehicle with many companies stopping diesel engine production altogether. Just throwing it out there - are there hybrids/self chargers that could compete in this space too??

The Puma is a "mild" hybrid which is not the same as Toyota's hybrid system. You won't buy a Puma for 20k either, they only hit the market last year.

Is the new model within your budget? The new model only came out last year and the old one is very dated now.
