Dark morning with lashing rain and SE winds. With 2 hours approx to high tide the water is high in the river, there could be some flooding. Barometer is falling rapidly, temperature is currently 7c. Happy New Year to all.

Happy new year to all my fellow weather enthusiasts here on boards weather,the best forum bar none:)...Let's hope this year brings more exciting weather than the last and that we all have most importantly a great 12 months... Anyway weather wise it's not off to a great start here as it's wet dull and miserable with a temp of 6.8c, but hey what's new:)

An extremely heavy rain shower suddenly turned to pea sized torrential hail for about 3/4 minutes together with very gusty winds. it has cleared no but winds are remaining quite strong. Was expecting a flash of lightning but it didn't happen.

Just a little taste of things over the pond. Have a snow day tomorrow, things are shut down!

"In the wake of a winter storm system which will dump several inches of snow this weekend, brutally cold weather will spread over much of the Midwest. Temperatures will be well below zero from late Sunday evening, all the way into early Tuesday afternoon. Morning lows of 10 below zero or colder will be widespread Monday morning and Tuesday morning, with locations north of I-74 likely colder than 15 below zero.

As blustery northwest winds continue through much of the period, wind chills will fall to exceptionally low levels for this area. Wind chills by early Monday morning will range from 30 below zero to 40 below zero, and as much as 45 below zero north of I-74. These dangerously cold wind chills will persist through midday Tuesday. "

Was watching FoxNews today, as 2ft of snow fell in a town near Boston & the coldest will be in Yellowknife in Canada at -51 (one of the roads used in Ice Road Truckers) & if you're outside for 30m or so will get frostbite, but then mention the weather conditions for the NFL games, i only assume the stadiums are heated good!

Also they dont say minus 51, they say Negative 51, which is strange to hear.

A cool showery afternoon in Castlebar. Some of the loudest thunder I heard in ages happened this morning with 2 or 3 different thunderstorms passing over between 0630 and 9am.
