Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just want to know where the hell they all go. It's not through the filter of the washing machine because that's impossible. I've lost hundreds of socks over the years and I still cant figure it out?

Once you wear the 1st pair of unmatched socks you start a chain reaction. Then the socks are never on the same wash cycle, plus the bed sucks them up as well. Washing socks needs to akin to a military operation. Plan ahead, have a checklist. If 1 sock goes missing his comrade should immediately be retired

    Under the bed
In the bottom of an old pair of pants
Down the back of the garden
Behind the drawer of the actual sock drawer
In another family members / housemates sock drawer

    Its a mystery.
But why are they only sold in pairs, when you only need to replace one?

Somewhere in the universe there is a planet entirely given over to sock life forms. And it is to this planet that unattended socks make their way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they know they can enjoy a uniquely sock-oid lifestyle, responding to highly sock-oriented stimuli, and generally leading the sock equivalent of the good life.

with apologies to Douglas Adams, wherever he is.

Inside duvet covers is a good place. Or in my case an evil wife who puts single socks into drawers.

Christ ! Ok, now socks seem to be drawn to dust, or dust is drawn to socks but that's for another discussion, either way you need to check all the dusty zones in your premises ASAP... Also old gym / gear bags. You don't have much time. Go Go Go

Awaiting further updates on the recently identified black hole - bet it contains millions of socks.

Use the buddy system. Count the pairs into the machine and out again. A sock does not go into the machine without a buddy.

Good tip is buy same color sets then no problem matching up.

The all black sock option is becoming more and more appealing

I've tried everything, thought I was onto a winner by buying only black socks that fit everyone in the house over a 2 month period.
"We'll never run out if socks again" I thought.
    Until, we did.
I decided enough is enough I'm going find the socks, as I could not afford to buy more.
After Searching the whole house, 3 bedroom semi, I finally came upon a basket full of black socks the motherload if you will.
Now our drawers are plentiful of socks, but, for how long?

What happens when you take off two socks , but one mysteriously disappears before you even get to the washing machine ?!

This whole buzz of buy all the same colour is complete madness. Like asking a great artist to only use one colour in a masterpiece in case he loses the rest. Socks define us, try imagining a world of only 1 colour of sock ? Madness

You could get laundry bags, try not to loose them.

Have often wished a manufacturer would put a little piece of Velcro on each sock so they could be matched up before hitting the washing machine and stay together.

People with kerrazy socks need help.

All the one colour and you never have to go searching for the pair. They're all pairs. It's a world of equality.

its not about it being one colour. you can have multiple colours if you want. it is more about having one style of sock for each colour. all your blue socks are the same colour blue and the same size ,shape and design etc. you can reach in and grab 2 the same colour and away you go with no matching or searching the right shade and stripe pattern

If you pair your socks off they should stay together

For a time; at least that’s until they get sick of the very smell of each other and undertake the process of separation.

I used to wonder the same until I found a load in my dogs kennel.

I moved to Canada on Sep 30th with an embarrassment of socks, 32 pairs.

By February, I was down to 4 pairs, 3 torn, and 25 individual, odd ones. I bought 12 new pairs, and 7 of them are already torn/have one lost

I am half convinced at this point that a sock fetishist lives in my building.
