Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't remember a single match from last year's world championship, hopefully this year's is an improvement. It'd be nice if it wasn't an MvG procession too. In saying that I'll still be glued to it every night :pac:

Ciaran Teehan is confirmed as a qualifier through the PDC Development tour meaning Ireland has it's highest ever amount of qualifiers with four (Willie O'Connor, Steven Lennon, Keane Barry and Ciaran Teehan).

Great to see especially for Ciaran and Keane. How much would they get even if they get knocked out first round ? Or is it a preliminary round ?

All four will start in the First Round and are guaranteed £7,500. The top 32 seeds come in at the Second Round Stage.

Brilliant. Will help twards them doing challenge tour next year although I wouldn't be shocked if they made last 32

He hasn't got a great record at the Worlds. Has 4 exits at the last 64 stage from 5 attempts. 4 first round defeats for him.

Will go close on that form tonight but others will raise their game. If he wins he'll be close to 2 million in prize money in less than 4 years as a household name. Some going.

How many of the 2019 surprise packets like Seale etc are in contention again ?

Worlds give a lot of hope for some guys but they seem to drop away as the year progresses

I agree, he has a poor enough record at the Grand Prix too so it looks like set format doesn't suit him. I think he even mentioned it in his interview of winning last night.

Was strongly considering Price as my bet for the worlds a couple of weeks ago when he was 20/1 or so.

I’m not sure i can touch him at 7s

Matthew Edgar, Kevin Burness and Benito Van De Pas won through the PDPA Qualifiers today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,508 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Draw tonight, but this afternoon a final qualifier with 60+ tour card holders chasing 3 places available.
Winners were Benito Van Der Pas, Kevin Burness and Matthew Edgar.

Amongst the biggish names missing out today were a few former quarter-finalists (and better) like Alan Norris, Jamie Lewis, Mark Webster and Kirk Shepherd. Ronnie Huybrechts and Robert Thornton also have a free Christmas.

One spot left with 43 female players battling for the final place.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭US2

Only 35 entries to the women's qualifiers today , any one know is it free entry for them or why so few turned up.

I think it is only open to UK & Ireland registered women.

Norris, Webster and Thornton would have been good additions.

Shepherd has been a disaster since 2008.

Yeah it is. That wouldn't explain why so few ladies entered, massive opportunity for them.

This event has become an integral part of my Christmas experience. Kicking back to watch some darts on a holday night with no work the next day and a few rums. Hard to beat.

Tough draws for Keane Barry and William O'Connor.

Ciaran Teehan got a reasonable enough side if he could win a game or two.

Fallon Sherrock the final women's qualifier. That's..... good:)

Saw it at 4-0 she was averaging 109 against Lisa Ashton. Watched a few of her games at the Irish open recently too, she could do some damage here.

Is it fair to say it's not the worst of draws for Mickey Mansell?
While Seigo Asada does clean up on the Asian Tour, he's not exactly blockbuster either. Keegan Brown isn't a bad seed to draw either.

Mansell's record in the Worlds is awful. Has never won a game I believe.

Interesting that Jamie Lewis missed out. Not that he's ever been a great player but it's unusual for a semi finalist to miss the event 2 years later.

Think brendan dolan will fancy his chances again anderson over short format

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

Sad to see alan norris lose his card , had a great first year in the pdc , since then has lost his wife and his form has gone to the dogs , hopefully he gets through q school !

I remember lads calling for lewis to be in the premier league after 1 fluky good event which was the worlds

    Cadby lose tourcard now also?

Shows how quickly things can go to ****e

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭Justin Credible Darts

    feel sorry for norris
whilst he was never going to be a top star, he was a decent player, and losing his wife the way he did would destroy anyones mindset, so no wonder his game went.

I often think players like that should be allowed to retain their ranking while they take time to mourn their loved ones.
To expect a guy to play under that sort of pressure is not right, and his losing his card seems little in the bigger picture, but it is his career and income.

So hard to predict a final but I'll go for MVG vs Darryl Gurney

Think Gurney will be one of the stars of this year's worlds. Price will go far I think but lose out in a QF

Again so hard to predict the world championships. Xmas will truly begin on the 13th December

I think Gurney has a potential minefield to get through - lots of players there in his quarter to potentially beat him - Durrant definitely, De Sousa been playing well (won a pro tour recently) - then he also has Suljovic, Dobey can pull out a big performance once in a while - so plenty of opponents to trip him up

I think what a previous poster said about Gerwyn Price is right - if he gets a few wins under his belt he could go deep - there's nothing in the bottom half that he can't beat - even with a dip in his current form he can easily beat most

Personally I think Durrant will do well - long format set play right up his alley

The 4th quarter might be the toughest there's ever been. On another year it would be a very strong last 8 ot last 16 even.

MVG,Wade and Wright probably got the most favorable draws of the top 10 players.

Better setup this year in general. Last year's early exits of Wright and Price left a bit of a void in the bottom half of the draw and was a much weaker tournament after.

Really fancy keane barry to cause an upset and knock van Der voort out, thought he'd be a bigger price than 11/4 though. Ciaran Teehan the same only 12/5 against Ross Smith.

last years World Champs also had 2 women
and ironically the two players that played the women, Ryan Joyce and Jan Dekker were both drawn against each other this year
