Hi to everyone,
i was jus reading forum, and thought maybe to a talk with my brothers about Islam. So what is at last, What is Islam?
For ex when i entered to this article, I have seen that the beging starts with lazy things, is that suits to Islam.
in my opinion who says that he is a muslim should be a good representer of Islam, or he shouldn't say anything about Islam even he is muslim.
Am i right or not? No don't understand me incorrect, like all muslims are brothers as a muslim also wanted just to share opinion, how do you think?

Hi everyone,

Ive been on boards a while, should maybe have introduced myself before now!

My name is Ujay, (though I am called Ajay) and my background is Pakistani, though Ive mostly lived in London, and came to Ireland with my parents when I was eight. Im Irish now, but I might be going to back to Pakistan, or somewhere in the Middle East soon, to teach English!

I am a medical student, and a Muslim. I love Islam, but have diverse opinions, but I try to always keep these in line with what I believe to be the lessons of Allah and keep him in my plans and thoughts.:)

Hi all.
The names Peter and have been browsing this forum for a while, but not posted. I am a Buddhist, live in Tokyo, and have a deep interest in all religions and a desire to better understand Islam. As a Buddhist I respect all religions and beliefs, other than those of fundamentalists.

Just wanted to say hi as I've been posting a few times on this forum recently.

I'm Patrick, born in Belfast though I've spent a lot of time living in England over the years. I sometimes do night work for a security firm (usually wearing a high visibility jacket or waistcoat!) and this gives a lot of time for reading and looking at the internet.

In the last few years, I've worked with some Muslims and I've been interested in how different they are from the stereotypes we see on TV. I don't like feeling ignorant about things so I've been doing some reading on Islam and would like to know more.

I am an Irish guy in his late 20's from Dublin who has embraced Islam. I have yet to take my Shahada (formally convert) though as I have a few issues I need to address (alcohol related!)

Hi there, my name is Stephen. I have just popped in here for a look after so many years on boards and to say the least I’m so intrigued by everything I particularly enjoyed the Islam post through the front door, I found that rather enjoyable. I am a roman catholic but lately I have begun to doubt my beliefs and now I’m looking to seek new guidance.I look forward to getting a better understanding of the religion.

Glad you liked the Islam through the front door post. Like its author, it's not perfect but I hope it goes some way to capturing my opinion on the best method of conduct with respect to this forum.

Hi all. Atheist here, but an largely interested in the worlds major religions, especially since I found out that 'Muslim' and 'Islam' weren't actually two separate religions

. I am mostly intrigued by Buddhism more than anything, as I have become acquainted with a handful lately. I used to date a Baha'i girl, so I know a bit about that too, especially some of the aspects that are similar to Islam, e.g. the equivalent of ramadan (can't remember the name).

Currently interested in the historic spread of some religions, and the relationship between religion and state, e.g. Ottoman empire, secular Turkey, the crusades, Israeli-Palestine conflicts, etc.

It's a surprisingly common mistake actually which reflects just how little people know about Islam. Now that you have fixed one part of ignorance with respect to Islam then you may as well continue removing the other parts

What I believe is that on all issues one must critically inquire, research, and above all question every aspect of your life and what you were thought as a child. You must read the texts of the revealed religions yourself and ask the hard questions of them. In this way you can make up your own mind as to what is true, and what is myth and unknowable

I believe in the process of empirical evidence as the primary rational in my life. Everything has a cause and it can be understood and proved if just given enough time. Meanwhile let us learn from history. Let us treat our fellow humans as we would like them to treat us, with respect and tolerance and humility.

Great admirer of Muhammad (pbuh), Jesus Christ, Moses, Joseph Smith, huge interest in them as men.
Don't believe in heaven and hell, reincarnation etc.
Interested in Baha'i faith but wouldn't wish to see a one world religion. I do believe religion should have no political influence, Irish history alone would suggest that. Of course this will never happen!

Main interest here is purely from a historical and social context.

Irish, born and bred, lapsed Catholic, living in Bahrain for the last six months (and no doubt for a year or two more). Utterly fascinated with Arab/Muslim culture and have been for some time now. Recently paid my first visit to a mosque which left me enthralled and confirmed my belief that Islam is not what Western media would have us believe.

23 year old Irish female primary school teacher, moved to Abu Dhabi in January. At first intimidated by Arab culture, I quickly became curious about it. I now find myself fascinated by the teachings of the Qua'ran.
I have met some genuine Muslims (by heart and not just by name) over here who have blown me away with their amazing compassion and good charitable hearts. With their support I now find myself reading the Qua'ran for the first time.
A religion I would have viewed with scepticism (as both a Westerner and with a feminist MA thesis to my name) I have quickly realised the virtues of Islam and it's surprising similarities to Christianity.
Raised as a Catholic in what appears to be the typical Irish fashion (went to convent school controlled by the diocese, made holy communion and confirmation, yet never attended mass or had any interest in reading the bible for myself); I always had faith in God and tried to lead my life by certain morals, but now I find my faith newly awakened.
Islam appears to me as a very self-directed religion, you can choose to recite which surahs speak to you personally, and it's minus that institutional feeling of the Catholic church. It's just you and God.
I look forward to exploring my faith more deeply, despite the scepticism my new faith has inspired in most of my friends. I know I must not worry what others will think, this is about my own personal journey.

There hasn't been a post here in over a year which is a little disheartening!

Anyway Mashallah to everyone who's posted so far!

I'm Alan, I'm an atheist but former Catholic. I'm fascinated by most religions but from a linguistics point of view.

I am learning 8 languages in total! 4 of which I'm quite confident in.

I'm currently trying to learn Arabic, haven't really started officially but I've an Egyptian friend who lives in Saudi Arabia whose been great help.

He's taught me expressions and sayings mostly with a few swear words too :P

The first time I was ever in a Mosque was in Sweden, I remember walking in with my mother and her friend and just being in awe.

I remember how beautiful the building was, as soon as you walked in you could see all the shoes lines up against the wall.

Some people were reciting Suras and others were just in quiet contemplation.

There was women and men there and I just remember thinking, wow, this is am experience!

I've been fascinated ever since and one day I hope to visit my friend Mezo in Saudi Arabia and experience it all!

Assalaamalaikum .Im zakariya irish born , left Ireland when I was young , lived in many countries . Reverted to islam after reading the quran Alhumdullallah .
