Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

ecently Migliore ran a competition to guess what their upcoming new product was. Fortunately for me I guessed correctly that it would be a graphene coating. Migliore Forte Graphene coating Prize was a free bottle of the product. I was thrilled.
Anyhow, as I do not have a lockup to use it I had to wait until the lockdown was eased to allow me visit my son 300kms away. This happened this past week. It was almost a 2 day session as we took our time to ensure as good a prep as possible.

This week with the help of my son Nick , after the usual prep, wash, decon, detar, clay. We gave the ateca a 2 stage polish using 2, In2Detailing DAS6 pro polishers (900watt) and scholl S20 black on green hexlogic pads. Followed by scholl S30+ on hexlogic black pads to refine as much as possible.
    Snow foamed and rinsed/dried,
This was followed by 2 wipe downs with bilthamber cleanser fluid.
Paint was then coated with Migliore Forte Graphene coating. Application was literally the same as ceramic, apply in crosshatch pattern and buff within 5 minutes. Went on and buffed very easily. 2 hours before cured.
Finished around 4pm on Friday and left it in the garage until 10.30 AM Saturday.
We are no professionals, but I am very happy with the end result. The flake really pops now.
Set off on the homeward bound trip of 300km's again, yesterday evening it rained, I was a little disappointed with the beading if I am honest. But something tells me I did read an article saying this is a feature of Graphene coatings.
Anyhow, Beading is for looking at, protection is what it is all about. This is rated at up to 5 year protection.
Lets see how it holds up for the next 13 months as I will be replacing the car then, ( all going well )
    Now for some pics,
*Edit* gave the disaster pillars a quick freshen up while we were at it.

Beading looked a bit better today as there was a good shower of rain.
    Also,
    I was correct,
Graphene coating is more of sheeting as opposed to beading.

Was that your first time using scholl? It seems to be lots of people go to these days.

    Yes,
It has been a few years since I did any polishing, and comparing this to some products back then, there seems to be very little dust from it, along with a very long work time.

    Great looking job Vectra.
As you said yourself, beading is more for looking at. The important things are it should be well protected now and easier to clean in the future.

Great job, the colour really pops! Looking forward to collecting the wife's one next week, it's pretty much identical to that, 1.5 TSi FR in Velvet Red her's is a manual alright.

    Thanks,
Even though we all love the beading effect, ease of cleaning is what I can do with now.

Thanks, Yes, the polishing really brought out the flake in the paint. That time passed pretty fast,:) looking forward to the pics. I am sure ye will enjoy it.

Great job Vectra and Nick. The red is a lovely colour and as you said, the flake is really popping now!

Have you tried the scratch test? Apparently with graphene coatings you can try all you like but it won't scratch. Could be BS but I'd like to see if it's true or not.

    Err. NO! :pac:

Maybe early next August before I replace it! ;):D:D

First wash since application of Migliore Forte over 3 weeks ago.
First thing I noticed was the snowfoam wasn’t inclined to dwell on the surface as it usually does, it was like it slid off the surface,
Pressure rinse and the paint was literally spotless.
Continued with the wash and instantly felt the wash mitt sliding along the surface, no grab feeling whatsoever,
Finished washing and rinsing, dried it with a soft drying towel and notice what seemed like water spots but these disappeared in a few seconds.
So far I am very happy with Forte.

Looks great - what was your procedure on the gloss door pillars. I could do with hitting mine but not sure how durable they are on the Mercs. I have much less swirling but some fading where dirt was trapped between the surface and teh stupid aftermarket stuck on chrome that I removed.

    Thanks

Use a light cutting pad with Menzerna 3500 or similar followed by a finishing pad and Menzerna 3800 or similar.

    This ^
Or what I used was scholl S20 on a hex green pad followed by Scholl S30 on a black hex pad.

Sound - I have Menzerna 3000 so will try that when i get to that stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

The lower abrasive you use for that trim the better. 3500 has a lower abrasion than 3000. Likewise 3800 has lower abrasion than 3500.

The reason for this is because since it's such a soft material, it's easy to introduce new swirls with higher abrasion polish.

It's not too bad - D&D have them well priced:

    3500 250ml - €16.99

    3800 250ml - €14.95
