Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Put in the two new fans and tidied up the case. Bit disappointed in the new fans I'm fairly sure they're louder than the old ones. They are running at full speed though (1400rpm) is there any way to slow them down without buying a controller? Their a Akasa and Be quite fans. The old fans even had a rattle in them which is why I replaced them.

    pc01.jpg

    pc03.jpg

And the bodge job on the back of the motherboard tray to hold the cooler in place. Had to remove one of the support struts going across the back.

To slow down the fans you can pick up some 12v to 9.5 fan adapters from Peats.I think you can also get some 12v to 7v adapters I think

    http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=25934

Nice job on fitting that cooler though ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,401 ✭✭✭✭Anti

You could also get out the auld soldering iron and just put in a few resistors onto the fan cable :D

Messy, but cheap as hell. Loads of guides online too. As for the akasa fans, they state a really low db, but eveyone ive had is always quite loud at full speed. Decreasing their speed to around 1000rpm will significantly cut down the noise of the little feckers.

Don't even talk to me about Akasa fans...

25dB? From where? The far side of a Gaelic pitch?!

Cheers for that, shipping is a bit pricey, €14 to ship them across the country? Compared to the price of the little cables and the size of them it's a bit step but prefect for me. Decisions, decisions...???

I know am electrical engineer that could help me too, guess I'll do this and buy a fan controller down the line.

Why have fans running at 50dB pushing 20cfm when you can get fans that put out 18dB and 40cfm ;)

I think you should get an EvoStream PSU... rated at 55dB. From the far side of a gaelic pitch. Two counties away lol.gif Then come back here and call us a bunch of girls while we try to keep straight faces watching all the blood gushing out of your ears! finger.gif

you need a couple of these bad boys:

thinking of replacing my somewhat rattly case fans on my HAF with these...

I'm starting to think that the great airflow on my pc is actually becoming a general hinderance...

You see, it's very cold in my house atm, we're yet to get the heating oil! And i really and truly believe that my pc has created a bit of a draft... Ever since installing the two new fans my temps on my Q6700 @ 2.66ghz with an AKASA has been 26-27 degrees. The temp of the air out of my two exhausts is not cool... IT'S COLD!!!

Greater airflow may be good for performance...

But wait until you get pneumonia!!!

Tell me about. My computer is across the room (probably about 10ft or so) and when I turn it on I can feel a breeze lol

Running at 23 degrees has is disadvantages lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,983 ✭✭✭leninbenjamin

lol Effluo, that's because you're using the wrong components.

me oul HAF can be the same, particularly if there's a window open you can literally feel the breeze going to the PC. But sure all i do then is just start my i7 doing some FFTs and it turns into a heater. :D

i suggest you put the plastic on the inside, will look more "factory"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,942 ✭✭✭Mac daddy

    Looks nice WillieDH :)

All my I7 kit is moving house from my Silverstone TJ07 into my corsair obsidian 800 as soon as I have finished chopping it up, need to order up a third radiator and more tubing for this case.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,377 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

He went with a non-standard shape and did it damn well. Ergo, it looks "factory" :P

Only reason to attach the plexi to the inside is if you don't have the tools or skills to make it look 1337 in its own right; if its a quality job it'll look factory regardless of how you attach it ;)

I prefer the slightly more industrial look of having it outside myself.

    V Nice work Guys :)

I myself and building a new Rig here in a couple of weeks based off a CM Storm Scout case, though I am considering ripping out the LED fans and replacing them with Good Fans :P
Might get some White LEDs or Tubes for the inside, as I see way too many Red/Black and Blue/Black cases nowadays, and after seeing how cool the Xigmatek Dark Knight looks with its white LED, I am sold on the White/Black Combo :)

awesome case. I got the cooler master 932!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

Papu, that's a nice mod, I was thinking of doing something similar myself. My case has like a chicken wire effect on the side door with no plastic covering it. Did putting on the plexi make much of a difference to the noise coming off the pc? Luckily I wouldn't have to do any shaping, it must have been tricky getting the plexi to that shape?

Jealous of all the new fangled builds around. Keep getting tempted to upgrade but there's absolutely zero reason...everything I play runs perfectly fine at high-max settings.

    At the moment..still the Armour Case. E8600@4Ghz, 4Gb Ram, 1Gb 4890 Vapor X, P5ND 750i, 750w PC P&C Silencer PSU...

If I could choose one upgrade, it'd be case. I really hate it.

Oh...and I need a fan controller big time. At the moment it makes me sad to admit yes, all 4 led fans are....Akasa. :o
