I chanced the e5 five blade razor from Lidl. Pretty good and I'm going to see how long it will fare now with the razor pit.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I started used Boldking blades around 2 years ago. They're class. Starter kit is €15 for 4 blades handle & face balm that I never used.

It's €10 for 4 blades after you get the starter kit. Not bad when it's around €20 for Gillette/Wilkinson blades.

If you really want to save on shaving start using a safety razor, for your 39 euro you'd have about 2yrs + of shaving, and a lot better shave.

I got them before. They're not bad but not as close a shave.

I think the Superdrug (through HDUK) deal on Fusion blades here before worked out at less than €1.50 a blade or something insane like that.

Have to be honest. I have been using the Lidl one for years, and recently tried Gillette and have to be honest, prefer the lidl one..

I just tried the Lidl razor off the back of the other thread and I doubt i'll go back to Gillette tbh.

It feels more plastic and flimsy but the shave was just as close and comfortable.

It's a no brainer as a quarter of the price.

You can't beat DE blades for value. Been using them years and still using ones I bought from a BA 18 months ago.(not the same blade;))

    Very good value.

Bought the assorted pack a few years ago. Found 7 o'clock and Polsilver the best.

You don't really need a brush and shaving foam. A bar of soap and two hands does the job.

Still have a heap of blades left from the SuperDrug promotion.

I found the astra blades useless. Polsilver are good.
There was a BA a while back for some blades from Russia on eBay. Best buy ever.:)

I'm still on my first box bought a packet of 100 for 11 euro back in march 2013 and still not finished using them. Probably have enough for the rest of the year, that's some value, Two euro a year on shaving.

Gillette Sensor Excel, I know it's ancient but IMHO end of/

The Aldi 5 blade copy of the fusion with the pivot head does me grand. Think it's 4.99 for a pack of 5 blades. I shave daily for work. Insanity spending massive money on Gillette and the like.

Its the Shark 5 blade razor and cartridges. Excellent and only 5 euro.

Having read about the shark on boards last week and using it all of this week, I gave the noggin it's first going over with it this morning and i'm even more impressed now..

And that little blade on the back (that i only found out about recently :( ) is at a much better angle on the shark.. It just seems to work better then the Gillette.

Still feels flimsy overall in comparison but i'll get over that for the price.

I wonder how much of it "being better" is down to new blades though. It's always a dream when you break into a new blade and at a fiver a pack you'll change them way more often giving a better experience..

Was just a thought. Might be bollix. But I know i stretch those Glillette blades out way beyond their best..

I have only 1 or 2 left from that deal.

Any idea if any more such deals coking out?

Are these razors safe to use? Always feel they will cut the skin badly?!? And can we use regular Gillette foam for them?

I think they last longer than the Gilette. Also I do the rough work first with the electric razor so maybe that stretches them.

Take a bit of getting used to. They're not as forgiving as the Gillette or other safety razors. Once you're used to it though it gives a better shave.

Wilkinson Sword do a cheap, plastic DE razor. You could try it out and get a proper one if you like it.

Don't do it when you're in a rush though. Maybe try at a weekend and take your time.

You could use Gillette foam but that stuff is awful. A nice shaving cream and brush would compliment the razor. Actually a good cream and brush would improve your normal shave.

Check out some of the shaving supply sites. You could really get into the luxury products. Some skin food for after shaving too. Sandlewood smells amazing and fresh.

I'd be afraid to use a mac3 or whether number there on now, 1 good blade is plenty, just as quick when your used to it. You learn pretty quickly to be careful with it.
For nicks and cuts or irritation even with a multi blade razor this is a god send https://4men.ie/index.php/osma-bloc-alum-block-75g.html?___store=smarttheme_en
As Wheety said you can use Gillette foam but it's just wrong a nice brush and some good shaving cream in a tub, they last ages. Taylor of old Bond Street are very well regarded can't go wrong with sandlewood, I'm currently using peppermint it's a nice fresh blast https://www.tayloroldbondst.co.uk/Mobile/shaving-creams-c102x3054419

    Thanks Wheety and Drunkmonkey!!

I have checked the links, the shaving cream from Old Bond Street is like a tenner (small and expensive) unless it lasts ages.

I am not a morning person, so I just do a quick shave with Gillette fusion 5 proglide power, for last few years and overall satisfied with it (maybe I am missing the experience of a real shave?).

I am wondering if these DE blades together with Bond cream and brush, will take much longer time to shave than the usual Gillette products??

Anyone moved to DE razor recently can share their experience please.

At the minute, I feel DE razor might give better results, but overall sounds pricey.

Got an electric shaver for thirty quid off Amazon.
Not as good as a blade but good enough for a couple of days. Also it gives my skin a rest from shaving and I get an incredibly close shave when I do use the razor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,512 ✭✭✭Wheety

For me it takes longer but I don't shave everyday. I do think it's a better shave though. It's not for everyone. You angle the blade against the skin yourself where as with the Gillette it's hard to get it wrong. I know some people can be just as quick with a DE as they are with a Mach/Fusion. I haven't being doing it too long so like to take my time. For me it's more of a luxurious shave.

The creams may be more expensive but it last ages as you only use a small amount.

It's expensive getting set up initially if you're buying a good brush, razor handle, shaving cream, bowl (you don't really need a bowl as you can lather it in your hand or straight on your face).

Here's the website I used before
    https://www.theenglishshavingcompany.com/

Derby Extra are sharp and are very popular.
    https://www.theenglishshavingcompany.com/derby-de-razor-blades-10-pack.html

10 for £2. So you will save money in the long run.

Yea that's when I ordered mine.
I had paid 21 pounds for 18 blades at that stage. Plus 3 euros to Addresspal.
