Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As it happens I watched The Hunt For Red October last night; one of Connery's more memorable performances (and reminds John McTiernan really was a solid action director). The story he kept turning down scripts for eventual franchises (Lord of the Rings, The Matrix...) would be funny were it not for the fact the film he eventually DID say yes to supposedly prompted retirement (the awful League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

Watching Casino t'other night. At 93, LQ Jones is still alive and knocking about.

I was at her a talk with and Q&A in the Bord Gais in 2016 and she is one amazing woman.

Watching 'In The Heat Of The Night' last night. Lee Grant, who played the murdered man's widow, is 95. With a Supporting gong for Shampoo, is she the oldest living acting recipient?

Anthony James, who played a cafe worker in the above, and ill-fated barman Skinny Dubois in Unforgiven, passed away last May.

until july it was Olivia de Havilland who died at the age of 104. It is currently Eva Marie Saint who is a year older than lee grant

I was at this talk aswell. And the Julie Andrews one. Also saw her when the cinema was doing a run of "Driving Miss Daisy" with her and James Earl Jones. I never considered myself a super fan but now that I see it written down

    Sean Connery
    Cicely Tyson
    Cloris Leachman
    Hal Holbrook

I've seen numerous reports of his death over the years. Its hard to know...

He allegedly changed his name from Donal to Donald as it was easier to do than get some cheapskate Italian producer to re-issue a cheque they gave him in the wrong name!

His IMDB entry claims he is alive as of last December anyway.

With the passing of Doris Day, and as a spin off from her thread, who are the veterans, i.e. 90+, stars of yesteryear still alive?

    snip

Too young for this thread but I see Michael Caine is 88 today, and I cannot think of him as a star of yesterday never mind Hollywood's golden era as he only started work when that was drawing to a close. He is in three films "on release"
    this year!

I have an affinity with the stars (and also lesser lights whose 'faces you know but cannot name') who are still with us and who have left their imprint on cinema. It's nice to mark their contribution while they're still alive, or at least remember them on the sister RIP thread when they pass.

Star of stage and occasionally screen (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) Sally Ann Howes is the 90.

Anyone hazard a guess at which movie star / actor lived the longest? I would chance Luise Rainer, double Oscar winner in the 1930s, who died in 2014, a few days shy of her 105th birthday.
