Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So where would I find historical electoral registers for someone who lived in Newcastle in the 1940s?

Depends which Newcastle you mean :pac:

I would imagine the County Library in both cases. I'm actually surprised SDCC haven't at least started digitising or even just scanning theirs considering they've done such stuff as their bits of most Thoms going back.

That's entirely SDCC / former DCoC I'm fairly certain - there's another Newcastle entirely in Wicklow.

Yes, I agree. Looking at the SDCC website now. It is not helpful. Will have to ring them tomorrow.

http://source.southdublinlibraries.ie/ has all their digitised content but its only a fraction of what's in Tallaght in total

Just to follow up on this in case anyone ever needs it:

SDCC county library had never heard of such things and claimed they were not kept.

Rang South Dublin County Council and spoke to electoral register department, overheard conversation while they checked which included actual laughter and eventually they came back and said they thought these records might be in Fingal Archives.

I talked to the archivist in Fingal and he confirmed they have the Dublin county registers, which start in about 1945. Before that they were only produced sporadically.

Fingal got the old county offices so that makes sense. Now we know who to pressure to digitise them. Corpo ones have been invaluable but the city limits were smaller then she to the townships and later developments so a lot of what you'd expect is council
