Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Provider VDSL Speeds

Im in the process of changing my Broadband away from Vodafone. I currently get around 45mbps download speed on the line. When I get Vodafone to do a speedtest on the line they get a reading of 50mbps, which all sounds quite normal.

Ive contacted Sky and they tell me that my line can only handle 34mbps!
I presume it should be the same as Vodafone as they are the same line etc?

Im about to order. Have a 14 day collijg off period anyway.

Could there be a difference in line speed with different providers selling the same VDSL?

You are about to buy Sky broadband at a lower rate mbps??
Word of warning that Sky do not give you the max either so you'll prob be getting 27-30mps with Sky in that case. That's a fair drop from your current provider.

Thanks. I presumed that all re sellers of VDSL would provide the same line speed. That is my question here. I wont commit if the stated line speed is correct in the real world.

I wont order if I find out that there can indeed be such variences from providers on the same lines.

What speed do you get when you check your line speed?

    Eir
    https://www.eir.ie/support/broadbandspeedtest/

    Bonkers
    https://broadbandspeedtest.ie/

    Switcher
    https://switcher.ie/broadband/speed-test/#fastest-provider

Lines should generally have the same speed but they are all eir lines. Each provider rents the line from eir so there may be a difference in the speed.
(Congested or uncongested line can have an impact & the time in which you do the speed check)

His speed is currently 45 Mbit as said.
He is on a 50 Mbit VDSL profile with Vodafone.
The issues is that Sky are saying they can't offer him a 50 Mbit profile even though his line is capable of.
Congestion has nothing to do with what speed VDSL profile you are on.

Skys database could be incorrect and they don't know what your line is really capable of.
They may change your profile to 50Mbit when they see your signal strength is good enough to sync at that speed.
But then again they may not, it's something you will have to ask them.

Thanks again. I`m not at home so cant check the line. Im waiting on a call from Sky so i think I will hold fire for the time being.

Im happy with Vodafone overall byt their fair usage policy has me moving away. 1TB a month will probably not work for me.

I guess it sounds like the Sky system is not up to date then!
