Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If America was to implode, let's say via a civil war, who will come to her rescue?

I'll say the Ireland and UK.

...Or can it ever implode? every nation has a connection there. a war in America, is a world war surely.

Leave them to it, they bought it upon themselves.

    Exactly this .

Besides they more than have the ability to end a internal conflict pretty quickly ,

Probably Will Smith , Bruce Willis and Tommy Lee Jones .
Mel Gibson might give them a dig out too and maybe Morgan Freeman.

Right I'll indulge you for a few minutes....

Why would it implode? I have not heard a single comment or suggesting to suggest a flight of fancy...

And if it was to, how would Ireland or the UK even have the capability to come to their rescue? The is just totally unrealistic.

There may well be some civil rest in coming years, but it will be quelled by the national guard it it goes that far. There definitely will not be any international intervention that you can be sure of.

Maybe someone will invade and steal their resources in the name of introducing democracy.

Wars are often started from something miniscule. I dont like thier....

UK and Ireland could start the talk, round up the allies. like WW2

Most countries that has had civil wars had national guards

    Round up the allies?

    Please elaborate.

What allies would be "rounded up"? Why would allies be needed? Would they take a side? Who's side would they be on?

Easy to say when you dont have cousins or relations there.

How many America investments are in this country.

How many American presidents have connection to UK/Ireland

In what way? Irish neutrality is actually based on the bottom of not interfering with other nations internal conflicts

Oh not racial lines I think. Maybe along current political lines. There is definitely racism, but there are a lot of people who are not racist and would have no problem sharing a country with different races. And it appears to pretty much divide along the political lines.

Not that fanciful. There are already European humanitarian organisations that have been providing food aid to impoverished Americans for several years, and only last week Medécins sans Frontières sent a delegation to assist with providing on-the-ground health care services as the country is now ranked as one of the "hottest" of disease hot-zones and unable to manage its own problems.

I doubt there'd be too much need for any kind of peace-keeping force, though. If there's any kind of implosion, the first reaction locally will be for the more rational states to secede and either set themselves up as independent republics (e.g. Hawaii, California) or enter into a new, smaller union (e.g. the North-Eastern states).

The countries who go to help would essentially be invading forces who would want to take control (or at least influence) in the way the Russians and allies did in Europe at the end of ww2.

So Ireland would be well out of it.

It was much further away then. By the time anyone got there it was over.

It lasted longer than the War of 1812 during which the British burned the White House, laid siege to Baltimore (which inspired the Star Spangled Banner) and had a landing force defeated at New Orleans by future president Andrew Jackson.

Why do they call it a civil war anyways, it's a walking contradiction.

Malcolm X and other black nationalists wanted a few states to establish a black homeland.

I think he had his eye on Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama.

You'd have to give Native Americans parts of the Prairies and South West.

    Latinos could have border states.

I don't think Civil War would break out in a structured way.

Just a deterioration in law and order, leading to extreme violence and widespread crime. Something akin to Robocop, Soylent Green or The Purge.

It would be a good opportunity to return the territory to the people who were there before all the troublemakers arrived. Spain, Germany, Italy, Ireland and the rest could take our people back. Canada could help in organising it.

It was much further away then. By the time anyone got there it was over.

The English had a benevolent neutrality towards the confederate states in that it allowed warships to be built in England and blockade runners brought in munitions etc in return for cotton and tobaco.
France had troops in Mexico at the time that could have been a help to either side if they decided to get involved but decided to stay neutral.

As for today, no one would be getting involved

And I think Gary Trudeau would draw the cartoon about it.

Canada would get millions of refugees. Like I said they could process them for return to Europe.

If we indulge the fantasy of a catastrophic civil war, I could see California and New York seceding, and staying out of the mess. Their economies are big enough and independent enough not to need the other states, so self preservation would kick in. California might take Oregon and Washington with them. They already have the “Western States Pact.” - which is only a loose agreement on how to handle Covid 19 restrictions, but it shows they’re working together on some level as a unit. Would NY take NJ and New England with them? I think the real mess would be in the rest of the states. No other country would get involved, they’d be let fight it out. Russia might cast its eye at Alaska, and some distant pacific territory might be tempting to China, if they felt they could take advantage of the situation under the guise of peace keeping.

But look, it’s not going to come to this. A bit of protesting and rioting, at most, and then it’ll fizzle out. Even if it did get worse, the US military is too strong to allow an actual civil war (assuming it doesn’t split into two factions, but it won’t.). Anyone rising up against them would be crushed. This business of a “well armed militia” to guard against an authoritarian government - or anything else - is nonsense. No amount of action men with assault rifles will defend against the national guard, let alone the gear the of the combined army, navy, airforce and marines.

To be quite honest, if it did implode, it's so heavily armed that I think it might be impossible for anyone to come to its aid. It'd be more likely a case of securing the Canadian border.

I have my doubts that it would ever come to that though. At worst, I think you could be heading for a situation of a lot of risks of domestic terrorism, and a security situation perhaps comparable to the Troubles.

I've a feeling though that it *might* blow over, but then again I was wrong on Brexit and Trump being elected, so who knows.
