Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can people give a a brief sypnosis as to why said celebrities took a fall, rather than just throwing out their names.Especially when you have to Google them just to find out who they are?(Would anyone outside of Brazil have even heard of the second guy if it wasen't for the murder?)

As if that was the biggest problem they had!.

I remember the scandal over that at the time,it was just before all those abuse cases broke.

Fair enough, not everyone would be familiar with him especially if you don't follow football.Just a bit more info in these posts is appreciated otherwise it just becomes a boring list of names.

Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo in hot water for making a nazi salute and shouting "white power" at a gig.Hes been suspected for years of having white supremacist leanings, hes made some dodgy remarks in the past but it seems to all be out in the open now.

Madonnas reputation has taken a bit of a pounding in recent years, more so now with the custody battle over her son Rocco. The business with adopting the child from Malwai put a lot of people off her.Personally I could never warm to her as a human being.

Think Adam Johnson can easily be added to the list.

Few that come to mind would be Big Ron Atkinson, football commentator. He used the N word when talking about a player. He thought his mic was off.

Lance Armstrong would be a big one. Can't believe I read his first book and second book and bought all he was saying about never doing steroids.

Hugh Grant for a time but long term I don't think it really did him any harm. Some might say it even helped him a little as it gave him an edge where previously he had been seen as squeaky clean.

Someone who fell from grace but not far enough for me would be Mike Tyson. Obviously he was convicted of rape and did time and all but some of the things he has said to people on camera are quite shocking in themselves but yet he regularly makes film cameos, chat show appearances etc. Very odd.

    Leslie Grantham
. Was excited when he came back to Eastenders as always love the Dirty Den character but then within a short time of coming back he went into his dressing room on set and had cybersex with someone who passed on his details to the tabloids. They then set him up by getting an actress to pretend to be interested in him and ask him about his fellow cast members. He didn't disappoint and after exposing himself again he went on to slate most of the cast members. And that as they say was that. Well, he does the odd play and pantomime here and there. Interestingly enough when he was 19 he "accidentally" shot dead a taxi driver in Germany and did ten years for it. I remember it being revealed by The Sun many many years ago. Certainly hasn't led a boring life anyway.

How this lad getting a licence to come here and make a few million in the summer is beyond me. His fans are extremely forgiving!

Rob Lowe - Hollywood star to Statutory rapist.

    Britney Spears

    OJ Simpson

    Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville

Roman Polanski. Found guilty of child rape and skipped the country. In Whoopi Goldberg's eyes, that's absolutely fine.... Because it wasn't 'Rape Rape'

Didn't Ryan Giggs get a lot of critisism for riding his brothers wife for 8 years? Scumbag.

Still, he's a popular figure with Utd fans.

Tulisa, she had a nice earner with being an X-Factor judge and probably could have carved out a career as a TV presenter but the drugs case, even though she was cleared has thrown the spanner in that.Theres been a drink driving case since and a couple of instances of her assaulting various Z listers. Also shes ruined her looks through plastic surgery.

I see Tom Cruise mentioned here a few times, but I wouldn't say he has had a major fall from public favour at all. While he has a reputation for being an oddball, most people separate his acting career from the fact that he is basically Scientology's second in commend. He is still an A-list actor whose movies continue to make considerable profits. He hasn't commented any cardinal sins such as racism, antisemitism, pedophilia or violence against women, all of which are far more damaging than Scientology as far as the general public are concerned.

That being said, I wouldn't say he's as universally admired as legends like Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford or Morgan Freeman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭PressRun

I agree. Tom Cruise, while not necessarily beloved like some film stars, is still a very bankable star for films. I know almost everyone regards him as a bit of a weirdo, but I think a lot of people would still watch his films.

She certainly hasn't fallen from grace. She lost a match and sure, some fans turned on her for her arrogance but she's still a very well loved and respected fighter, not a fall from grace.

I don't think she has fallen from grace either. There were people who were lining up to twist the blade when she lost, but there were people who felt sorry for her too. I've no doubt plenty will be tuning in for her comeback.

Jade Goody. An example of hypocrisy with the general public. She fell from public behaviour with racist comments and then rose back up when diagnosed with terminal cancer

Absolutely... I have a lot of admiration for her.. Her appearance on Ellen was very brave and her honesty about her suicidal thoughts was amazing.

    We need more Rhondas.

    Do children's tv characters count?
Zig n Zag, Dustin maybe even Bosco

Not a fall from grace as such but past their sell by date perhaps.

i wonder had Zig and Zag not 'defected to channel 4/mtv in the mid 90s would they still be doing kids tv on RTE (if they wanted to)
Granted they reinvented themselves with Podge n Rodge but that too has had its time.

Perhaps these sort of characters only have a short shelf life/time span by their nature.

Agree about Justin Lee Collins BTW. Alan Carr must thank his lucky stars every day that he broke out on his own before JLC's exploits were unveiled. they first found tv fame as a duo on the Friday Night Project on Channel 4..

I'd forgotten about him.Kind of odd how you never see or hear of him in anything now considering what the cause of his downfall was, having a couple of affairs and doing coke. Not condoning it but not exactly up there with child abuse etc.

Think it was Hislop who said his presence made the show's moral stance shaky.

But maybe people on the prog just didn't like him enough to overlook it.

Bill Cosby has to be one of the worst.

He was a role model for black people, especially young black men.

Now his career and reputation are in tatters.

Gwyneth Paltrow, not an obvious choice but these days shes seen as a bit of a weirdo egotist control freak and advocator of dubious diets and health regimes. Not that long ago she was one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood but I can't remember when I last saw her in something. Its not even a case of her just going out of fashion which happens with a lot of actors and actresses,I think shes despised overall as a person.

Probably doing less work as a single mother now too.

Also, Ralf & Florian, got to be Hutter and Schneider, right? :P

Eddie Murphy's star took a slow nose dive throughout the late 80s and early 90s as the sort of flat out homophobia that he had sprouted in Raw and Delirious became less and less tolerated in the mainstream - culminated in his getting arrested for soliciting a transvestite. Seems to have made a near complete recovery now though.
