Literally any of the rental companies.

Or you could try Turo, it's like Air B&B for cars.

1 Day rentals are terrible value, typically working out at a way higher daily rate compared to a week rental.

Also are you dropping it one way? Costs vary from nothing extra to $150 and some scam artists $1500.

    Do 2 searches:

1 - pick up from and drop back to NY for 1 week.
2 - one way 1 day from NY to DC

Eh actually - one way fee with Trifty from JFK in December for a 1 day rental is coming out at 170 euro all-in with extra coverage. I eat my words.

No clue, but throwing your dates and times into Kayak will tell you.

Always found Avis to be the cheapest one way rentals, you can get a Ford Fusion/ Mondeo for $134.

Are you going one way or return?

If going one way, it might be less hassle to just go by bus. There are a number of cheap buses running from midtown to DC. (Bolt bus, Mega Bus) Travel times wouldn’t be too different, around 4 hours.

If doing a round trip, and are looking to book a car, the actual cost of rental can vary significantly based on the date you want it and where you are picking it up from. Manhattan tends to be very expensive, though you might get lucky and get a car for less than $60, but could pay over $150. Depending on where you are staying, look at the airports, as these would typically be cheaper. Newark would geographically be your best option.

Your cheapest option for a car would be going to a local rental location in New Jersey. These are always cheaper than both Manhattan and the airports and will have you on the right side of the Hudson. You would need to get a train to them, but quick bit of research and should find what you are looking for.
