Always found Multitrip good for trips to the US, submitted claims on 2 separate holidays and had no problems with claims.

Don't shop by price, shop by cover.

+1 virtually all cheap travel policies assume that you have a medical insurance policy here in Ireland which covers you for a decent amount of medical expenses when abroad so they're effectively only quoting you for the excess. Which, for travel in Europe, means they expect you to have the EHIC card and they will not have to fork out a cent because the VHI or Irish Life will pick up the tab.

That is something to watch out for. And if you're travelling to the US, make sure that any policy you buy will cover you for US medical expenses because the US is in a different league and unless you tell them otherwise, they will quote you for non-US travel.
