Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know you cant drive before 17 but whats the quickest way to get them on the road on their own?

do they have to be on a provisional for X amount of months?
when can they apply for a full licence? (assume they pass it for sake of discussion)
do they need a full licence for a period of time before they drive on their own?

    just reading this,
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/motoring_1/driving_tests/driving_test.html

if my interpretation is correct, you can sit the theory test when youre 15, apply for a learner permit for your 17th birthday, you have to have that for 6 months before you can get your full, can you sit the test for the full licence before that so it comes legit when youre 17 and 6 months?

Pretty sure your interpretation is correct yeah. You'd need to do your 12 EDT lessons between getting the Learner Permit and passing the 6 month waiting period.

There is no provisional license. Its learner permit. Can't be unaccompanied on one. Regardless of how long you've had it.

You can start driving immediately on your own once you have the full drivers license physically.

Hmmm... The folks who issue it disagree with that. They are very insistent on stating you have to wait until you've received the licence.

Surely if you have the certificate of competency from actually passing the test you can drive unaccompanied, and you can do that for upto 2 years, however, if you don't swap your L.Permit and Cert within that 2 years you have to resit the test.

EDIT I'm going to withdraw the above and just state how backward we are if you can't drive on a certificate of competency and L Permit,

IF you were in the UK the tester will ask if you wish for your license to be sent automatically to you (there's efficiency) and you can drive away

    https://www.gov.uk/driving-test/driving-test-faults-result
    If you pass your test
    The examiner will:

tell you what faults you made, if any
    give you a pass certificate
ask you if you want your full licence to be sent to you automatically - give the examiner your provisional licence if you want to do this
Apply for your full driving licence within 2 years of passing your test if you don’t want to get your licence automatically.

    When you can start driving
You can start driving straight away when you’ve passed your test. You do not need to wait for your full licence to arrive.

Contact DVLA if your full licence hasn’t arrived 3 weeks after you applied for it.
