Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ive read that all cars since 2009+ have alarm and immobilizers ? is this correct?
Im lucky enough to never have had my 2014 skoda's alarm and immobilizer abilities tested, but can i assume it has one?

Virtually everything has had an immobilizer since the mid 90's. Alarms aren't so popular though, definitely not every car would have an alarm.

Alarms as said wouldn't be standard on all cars.

Good way to test alarm would be to leave a window down and lock the car with key fob, then wait about 10 minutes, then try to open a door from inside and alarm should activate.

Immobiliser would be on pretty much every car since around 1996 or so.

My 1998 Fiat had it already... I hear that JDM imports don't though.

Alarms are not standard - and frankly useless and annoying. Nobody reacts to an alarm anymore and scum know that.

I think JDM without imobiliser chips was only up until 2001-2003 possibly

You would be surprised that some countries like in Africa don't get a lot of the standard stuff like ABS or even Airbags in their cars. I seen modern Hyundai cars in Pretoria South Africa a few years back without Airbag fitted steering wheels.. Strange.

Immobilisers became mandatory in the UK in 1998, so most (but not all) cars sold here also got them fitted as standard around then.

Bought a new Corolla this year. Immobiliser but no alarm.

Total idiot alert here, but I always thought an immobiliser as a hidden switch somewhere, or an extra button on the key fob. Only just learnt by goggling that its usally the electronic key fob matching the ignition switch on turnung the key, and always said no to my car having an alarm/immobiliser on the insurance. Wondering what I could have saved now.
