    Hello,

I've come across what I think may be a cousin in the Allegheny County Workhouse register for 1932. He was sentenced to 30 days and the offence is "S.P."

Is there anyone out there who could tell me what the offence "S.P." was?

    Thanks,

    S.

I see some other entries as 'Sus. Person' - could the person have been held on remand? Suspected person?

I had gone back a few pages to see if the full description was there but could only see SP.

I'll go forward a few months to see if he shows up again.

    Many thanks.

Just guessing - I'd suspect it is for 'suspicious person' i.e. a vagrant. The year 1932 was the worst of the Great Depression, lots of people on the road looking for work.
