Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I *think* it's only for J5 cup. Can't find it but it must be there because we were all talking about it at the start of the league.

We have these same discussions every year about loading up but from a quick glance of the cups I cant see any massive hammerings we had in previous years. Cups suit clubs that have a large pool of players they can draw on for short periods that don't want to play in the leagues. There are a few solutions that would solve it like having some cup rounds before christmas but that might leave teams with nothing to play for come halfway through the season. I think the J4 and 5 cups should have rules making players play a certain amount of league games to make them eligible but above that it's a higher standard and non development so I think any legal players should be allowed play.

That isn't strictly correct. If your sub prop or hooker gets injured, having already replaced an injured starter, you can go uncontested with no penalty.

Yeah, you're correct. As long as there is a sub to replace the initial injured one then you're fine. It actually happened with our team on Saturday, we played the last 5-10 mins without a recognised prop.

Regardless of who the game was against, you hate to see this happening.
In the O'Connor cup we (clontarf) played three games, and I think we can safely say that we didn't come up against a team that was out and out bangered up. It makes a huge change form previous years, and actually made the cup run enjoyable (despite losing in the semis.)

If these acquisitions are true, I hope that Mary's get penalised for it.

Thank god too, the last 20 minutes of that semi was tiring enough.

You lasted a whole game without getting injured?

Don't be silly, I got injured doing the warm up...in September...and was just tired watching it.

Branch will have to re-examine criteria for cup qualification and regrading of players for cups, To many teams that were not great in the league finishing near the bottom but having miraculous cup runs with totally different teams. Totally against the spirit of the competition and we all know the clubs who do it have a look at league tables and cup results and you will get a clearer picture. Very frustrating for lads who have trained and worked hard all season to be ousted by teams they have beaten very comfortably in the league and discourages rather than encourages players from remaining in rugby especially lower down the divisions.

What do you want the Branch to change? How would you implement any changes?

Cup running through out the season is only answer

Every division 6 team being knocked out of the Winters cup by the quarters tells it's own story.

Extension/Implementation of the rule requiring players to have played for league games to be eligible for cups. Either it will mean that the glory hunters have to integrate with the league squads and help bring their experience to the junior players. Or they don't play and it makes the cups fairer.

Would be fairer. You could then introduce a plate to run alongside cup where possible to give sides more games towards end of year/other sides a chance of silverware

How would you extend the rule? How would you ensure it would be implemented and who would you get to implement it other than those who do so already.

Should some players who cant commit to a season but want to play some rugby not be given the opportunity?

Honestly, I kind of thing they shouldn't, fair enough if they can only make it sporadically to games throughout the season due to work commitments, but I think players donning the boots for the cup alone should look to be stamped out.

What are peoples thoughts on an ID Card system?

Cards work in age grade don't see how they wouldnt work in adult game.

Why shouldnt people be allowed play social rugby for some games if eligible. They may be a higher standard but if eligible what else can you do.

Extend as in it only applied to one cup this year, extend it to all cups below J1 level.

I don't think having players parachute in for cups is good for clubs or the competition, who loses their place to accommodate them, how does that affect future player retention, I know a few people who got pissed off with it happening and simply gave up playing, so it's not always a good practice for clubs either.
