I loved this back then, and still love it now. I don't understand why it's been so badly forgotten because it was absolutely hilarious. I know Phil Hartman did a few turns on this, and many members of the American comedy troupe The Groundlings were involved, playing guests.

I'd love to see it get released on DVD one day. I used to have a collection of VHS rips which I don't mind saying I pirated because there was absolutely no commercial way to get them. And they were decent, too. Unfortunately I lost them after a HD failure. The VHS rips currently floating about are shocking.

I used to like The Jim Rose Twisted Tour on Bravo. This was a documentary series following the eponymous circus show.

I'm With Busey - That was a semi-reality show where a timid TV writer hangs out with Gary Busey and Busey attempts to teach him a life lesson or skill in each episode.

Insomniac with Dave Attell - Stand up comedian Dave Attell finishes his set and then brings a camera crew with him to experience the after-hours delights of his host city.

On the Air - David Lynch's sitcom about the hilarious mishaps at a 1950s TV station.

Pebble Mill at One (Wikipedia), the first run, very early eighties.. drove me nuts as a kid, remembered for all the wrong reasons, mind numbing.

Don't get me started about: Ivor The Engine (Wikipedia), they should have handed out razor blades before viewing.. this was on late afternoon, heading into 'tea-time', BBC1..

I was certain that no one would post about "Torchy the Battery Boy". Dang! beaten to it. I discovered a few years ago that Torchy was voiced by a woman - years before Bart Simpson,eh?

Used to watch "Watch with Mother" on BBC or ITV when I was about 3 or 4 (1958), so watched Torchy, Andy Pandy (and Loopy Lou), the Woodentops. Later it was Tales of the Riverbank - Ratty and Mole.

But I'm surprised this one wasn't mentioned, as it was late 60's and must have been on RTE as we'd moved to Ireland and one channel land - Tierry le Fronde. Sort of Robin Hood with a sling. Set in medieval France, with either dubbing or subtitles. All the kids on the road became sling experts. Not!

and who could ever forget those communist bloc cartoons that all ended with Koniec!

in the early 80s i used to love an american tv show called 'voyagers!' which was on rte one at 5pm on tuesdays after school.
time travelling romp...a different place in history each episode.
i loved it...thought it was the best tv programme ever at the time

10 years ago i got a dvd set of it....my god it was ****e...so dated now looking at it...looks like very low budget 80s tripe, as good as it looked to me then.

There's a modern version of it (ie within the last 30 years), which I saw one day on a nephew/nieces tv. Probably uk channel.

Ready, Steady, Go! sort of top of the pops. Remember mini dresses and the lads in slacks, jackets and polo necks.

Late Saturday afternoons, immediately before Dr Who, TellyGoons. Spike Milligan and co doing the voices for puppets. Loved it. (think it was a follow on to a radio version called The Goons).

The star of the show, John Hexum, died in a tragic filming accident.

He put a blank gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

While the gun only fired blanks, the expulsion of the paper wadding left him with fatal head injuries from blunt force trauma.

1971 - The year before I was born.

1981 - As part of Anything Goes.

Have seen a few episodes of this, I think it would appeal to Minder fans. The plots he gets caught up in remind me of the situations Terry would get into in Minder. But I suppose without an Arthur to lighten things up, is why it is not as well known.

I think there should be an RTE archive channel.
Year's ago the programme s were more educational, informative and interesting.

Radharc, to the water's and the wild, and many more.

The blackbird and the bell was great too.

If RTE deleted their archive's shame on them.

I’m sure they taped over a lot of their old programmes, tape was prohibitively expensive back in the day I believe. Bbc did the same, others too I’m sure. I read somewhere where the bbc got a lot of old footage from people who had recorded it at the time and kept it.
