Have the auto box for about 9 months now and since I got it I've had a very good run of not being bent over with back pain. Just being able to rest my foot even in the city, as opposed to having it primed over the clutch (and the depressing action), leaves me much more comfortable after a journey and not stiff up legs and…

Think that's the main thing, some of us just like manual over auto.
I find auto's awful boring to drive personally, although one would be handy for my M50/M4 commute at times.
