Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can anyone please help to id the prey the birds has in the first pic? It looks like some kind of rodent, which is a bit unusual for a sparrowhawk I think?

Hard to tell - might just be a 'stripped back' (i.e. head, wings etc removed) bird? Have seen Kestrel predating Tern chicks and they got rid of the head, wings etc and just took and ate the body.

Thank OYE, makes sense. My money is on magpie chicks then based on the significant scuffle between these two minutes before, what is what led me to find the sparrowhawk.

Took this shot through kitchen window. Young robin in back yard early in the morning looking for cast offs from bird feeders.

I can't make out the size properly, but isn't that a juvenile robin?

No orchids here yet (beautiful by the way) but lots of Lady's Smock (Cuckoo flower)

    3522q7r.jpg

And I'm not sure of the ID here but think it might be the Caterpillar of the Drinker moth which is apt as I was nursing a small hangover while walking the fields this morning :P
