Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. He’s on the field at EVERY single break in play mouthing away at people. Annoying.

Don’t think it’s a case of being unfair. Just it is what it is, there are some teams who just don’t seem to ever properly click for championship. The emigration thing is donegal wide, hardly just a falcarragh thing.

Would be great for them to win it especially after what they’ve been through this year.

Replay fixed for Wednesday night in Convoy. Another classic from the county board.

    They're some shower.

I heard the Falcarragh manager saying they have 9 boys in Dublin. Ballyshannon have a fairly young team and i'm sure they (like everyone else) have boys working away and boys in college etc.

There's no rush for Ulster either which makes this all the more bizarre. I get that the final has been fixed from the outset but this is seriously unfair on the players and it is just really wrong to put them through this.

Nobody would have been that annoyed had the county board pushed the replay to Saturday and then had the final the following week. Doubt either team would care if the game was on in O'Donnell park to save the pitch in Ballybofey before the senior final on the Sunday either.

Which is what they'd probably have to do anyway if Wednesday finished in another draw!

Yeah but we will never get sick of beating them.

In Ballybofey too should make us slight favourites. Tough match but if we overcome them we will be favourites for an unprecedented 3 in a row. Would go some way to making up for this year's disappointing exit but a long way off yet.

Bit of an irrelevant fixture in many ways. Both teams will inevitably reach the Super 8's. Hard to see past Derry for Ulster this year. Gallagher worked miracles with Donegal and Fermanagh and I expect to see the same with Derry.

So sick of playing Tyrone. It feels like they are the only team we ever play. Was hoping for Armagh to give us something different, but sure if we get through Tyrone they'll most likely be joining us in the semi

Personally I want to know Strabanimal’s take on the draw. He’ll be struggling to contain himself between now and May.

Long time reader, first time poster. Gallgher's credentials cannot be disputed. No Gallagher in 2012 = No Sam Maguire for Donegal. Jim was fantastic but he needed Gallagher big time.

Yeah big Neil was fantastic in 2012.

I for one welcome this draw.

Will be a full house and a poisonous atmosphere. What Ulster football is all about.

I'd rather lose to them in the opening game than in an Ulster Final.

But I'd love to beat them, again. The prize is great. A semi final against a team managed by any one of two you would never get tired of beating.

And then, assuming they hold up their end of the bargain, we get a chance to make good the failure of 2013 against Banty.

    Looking forward to it.

Will probably end up being a Cavan v Armagh Ulster Final.

    Familiarity breeds contempt.

It must surely get tiresome playing your main rivals in Ulster on what appears to be such a regular basis.

There's a big plus for winning Ulster this year. The Ulster champions will go into the same group with the Connacht champions in the Super 8's, the winners in Munster and Leinster (Kerry and Dublin ??) will be in the other pool.

Big chance for Ulster champions to make it to the semi final stage.

Well after saying Cloughaneely weren't a championship team they've only gone and made it to the intermediate final. :D

Saw the footage, what a finale. Ballyshannon went a point up in the 74th minute, Cloughaneely go straight up the field and get a goal. Couldn't write it.

Hope they go and win it now but they're not helped by the County Board and this ridiculous turnaround.

Pity Letterkenny Gaels beat Na Rossa, could have had a unique event of all Three Parishes clubs in Senior, Intermediate, and Junior football finals.

If Buncrana don't win it they should be allowed play hurling and nothing else.

Say we win Ulster, we could still end up in a group with Throne and Mayo?

    Buncrana get it done.

Cloich Cheann Fhaola come up short, the schedule was against them. Was it a big surprise that St Nauls won? They have been there before and were fairly competitive in Division 2 iirc.

What is the problem in Inishowen. Loads of talent but they linger around Intermediate and Junior championship. Especially Buncrana. Done the Inter double a while back and won Minor a few years back but have never established themselves as a Div2 or Senior side. Very disappointing as they have produced good players over the years.

There is but Buncrana should have enough to do both. Know some great Gaels from that area and they would love to sit at the top table in Donegal football but they just never seem to reach it. Gweedore are probably an example of a parish that have both

I would love to see them up at the top table as well as it would raise the GAA profile on the peninsula.

Gweedore are handling both codes well, but the soccer tradition may run deeper in Inishowen and there may not be the give and take between the two codes there is in Gweedore

Well done Buncrana great to see them winning a championship the amalgamation of the colleges seems to have benefited football in Inishowen
It pains me to say but soccer is doing a better job at marketing their product at underage level by calling their all county competition has the champions league numerous development , county squads with the carrot being to get playing in foyle cup etc .
Keep the flag flying in Inishowen

In fairness Naul's have some decent players. Mulready is solid in goal, McCole was powerful at full back. The final free Griffin kicked was sheer quality from wide on the right just inside the 45. Their wing forward was also an excellent player but the real touch of class in their side is Peadar Mogan. He is going to be some player.
From a Cloughaneely perspective there can be no doubt but the crazy scheduling played a part. They were two points up with about ten minutes to go but were overrun in the final stages. They also missed a glorious goal opportunity when it looked easier to score. You could see how much it meant to them but they never got to grips with the game around the middle third. Nauls kept their restarts away from Jason McGee and Cloughaneely could never hit him with any consistency.
There is one other issue that is worth raising. Cloughaneely had retired the number 2 jersey for the season for obvious reasons. In the match programme the Nauls no 2 was named in the Cloughaneely side in the 2 jersey. In light of the circumstances involved I thought it was a shocking and insulting oversight by the powers that be.

Nauls were favourite with the bookies in advance . I would put that down to Cloughaneely's schedule more than anything. It seems they simply ran out of steam in the last few minutes.

I wouldn't expect Nauls to stay up next year whereas Cloughaneely probably would have.

The intermediate is a very strange championship. Should get more attention than it does as it is very competitive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 73 ✭✭Murt15

Clochaneeley simply ran out of steam, 4 and half matches in 13 days proved too much for them in the end. They scored 3-45 and conceded 3-45 with each game decided in injury time. A ridiculous bit of scheduling from the county board. A tough year for the club and parish but no doubt they will be back. Congrats to St Nauls and Barry Meehan. St Eunans could do a lot worse than give that man the job.

Well said Murt it was a tough ask for Cloughaneely
On Barry Meehan didn’t he manage St Eunans in the past can not understand how with all there underage success Eunans have failed to appoint a manager internally

The title of this thread, if you haven`t noticed is, Donegal GAA Discussion.
If you wish to make comparisons between Jim Mcuinness reign as a Donegal County GAA manager and that of the present Derry County GAA manager`s reign with Donegal then you are in the right place.

Giving you the benefit of doubt, perhaps you inadvertently posted here believing this was the thread (if such exists but i have been unable to locate) where comparisons are made between Jim Mc Guinness and the current Derry GAA manager`s tactical soccer nous.

If so then you are in the wrong thread.

I would disagree slightly with this. If that amalgamation was helping then surely they shouldn’t be in the Junior Championship?

Noting much to write home about yesterday. I enjoyed it all the same. Naomh Conaill dug deep and while they had the final 2 efforts they were potshots from bad areas.

Thought Anthony Thompson was excellent and Glenties showed serious fight generally. Big of a dampener that Kieran Gillespie is injured again though.

    Hopefully all nonsense.
I hear though that one of our injury prone young players is facing hip surgery. The number of hip injuries in the game nowadays is surely cause for concern.

Was that Gillespie that got injured just before half time?

Sad to hear about Gillespie. Seems he is cursed.

Didn't see the game. But, Kilcar game aside, seems Gaoth Dobhair not at the same level as last year.

As for left footed corner forwards going travelling, I assume that would be Paddy which would suck balls.
