Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I got scammed with a car a number of months ago , so called a dismantler
that left a leaflet on the windscreen. He came 3 days ago asked for the log book and key jump started my car and then said he would be back in morning to get it.
Still no sign of him so I rang him this morning and he said a problem with his tow truck. He said tomorrow but I am getting worried as he has my log book and key
is this the norm for dismantlers?
Got scammed with car now afraid this might be a scam too.

So this guy may just be checking with genuine dismantlers to see what they will give him for the car that you have given him for free?

Should I ring Registration Office ? Will they cancel the log book he has?

You want rid of the car don't you?

Just wait and I suspect it will disappear soon enough.

I'd give the Guards a call and ask them what to do they might have heard of the scam if there is one and be able to advise on what you need to do. They are often keen to know whats going on anyway so worth a try.

    Who has the log book...

Good luck with fines etc as if he has it it may well be back on the road

Since the OP didn't get the car to a registered vehicle end of life centre they could be in trouble.

Why would you give someone a logbook and key for your car, without getting a receipt, or money, or asking for identification? Bizzare!

    Scare mongering as usual.

Is it a jail sentence, hanging or a fine for being daft enough to give away an old car to travellers?

About the only illegal thing here is that someone is doing this and not paying tax.

The trouble is the car may still be in OPs name but used by someone else who won't have to worry about automated speeding fines or toll fines now.

Op you should ring the VLC center in Clare and tell them that you have given the car to this person just to put yourself in the clear should he put it back on the road.

Or some unsuspecting buyer may buy a stolen car with op no plates on it...

Jesus, the mind boggles. It would appear that every single rule for buying and/or selling a car have been broken here. Is it any wonder people get scammed.

Did I read correctly that you bought a car that was to be scrapped? Isn't this illegal?

Trade in to be scrapped doesn't mean it has to be...

Obviously dealer was doing a deal on scrappage....

I don't see why though she didn't go back to where she bought the car....
