Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Just wondering guys.

When turning right from two lanes, into 3 lanes, does the drive on right keep to right lane while the driver on the left is allowed to go into the middle and furthest lane.

you should have road marking to guide you, hard to tell without picture.

    Hi,

Road positioning is very simple, numerous lanes or none. Follow the law.
17 Obligation to drive on the left and to use traffic lanes
17.—(1) A driver shall drive as near to the left hand side of the roadway as is necessary in order to allow, without danger or inconvenience to traffic or a pedestrian, approaching traffic to pass him on his right and overtaking traffic to overtake him on his right.

    (2) Save on a one-way roadway, a driver shall drive to the left of a traffic refuge.

    (3) A driver shall not drive from one traffic lane to another without good cause, and without yielding the right of way to traffic in that other lane.

So, no lanes drive on the left, if lane markings, the left-most lane. Traffic can now safely overtake you on the right.

If turning right a short distance ahead, go right, keep right. And indicating right, traffic can now legally overtake you on your left.

Above is the LAW, not optional. Not following it could result in a fine

If lanes are marked with directional arrows, obey them.

In situations like this it is common for the lanes to go as you outline and oncoming traffic would have a lane to come in on the left of the 3 lane. The cars would change lanes after the intersection. Assuming a four way intersection.

I think the OP means that in a situation where there are 2 dedicated lanes for turning right and the destination road has 3 lanes on it, do the side by side drivers making the right turn enter lanes 1 and 2 or lanes 2 and 3 in the new road.

This is my reading of it also. The answer would be lanes 1 and 2 unless lane 1 was subsequently road marked left turn only and they wanted to go straight. The car to the left of the pair would then need to change lane when safe to do so.

Probably obvious, but do I look over my shoulder when changing lane to the right on an approach to a roundabout or is it just mirrors and signal?

    Hi

Way I read it. There is a dedicated right turn lane ahead.

Therefore all right turning traffic would be in the right-hand lane, all other traffic in the left.

The right would immediately go into the right lane, all other into the left or lane No. 1. Anyone wishing to overtake lane no 2.

If you started your mirror observations early enough on the approach so that you were fully aware who or what was behind you and the distance between you a blind spot glance may not be necessary. If you’ve left the obs a bit later then it could be a good idea. It’s all about making effective observations.
